Just wanting to hear some stories of all you nurses that really love what you do. I am finding myself, more than not , reading the "horror" stories of nursing, is it really all that bad all the time????

how long you been nursing , what floor and why do you like it?

I called a friend that is a employee at the hospital I am going to be working at , although she is not hiding anything her report is positive, I cant' wait!!!

she did confirm that the position I wanted probably woudln't have been a good one so God is good and knows more than me even if I dont conceed! LOL

I think this is a great question and I plan to share some of your answers with the nurses where I work. I too am so tired of hearing the "horror stories". I became a nurse because I was an aide from the time I was in high school and wanted to be a nurse for the 13 years I was an aide. The only reason I waited was money. I was busy with a young family and a challenging husband:devil:. I have been a critical care nurse now for 25 years and love every minute of it. As a matter of fact I did a year and a half stint in administration recently and "RAN" back to the floor and my 3 -12 hour nights. I will be doing this until they tell me I have to retire or until I can't do it any longer.

It is such a joy to see the majority of my patients get well and resume their lives. I also count it a privilege to assist the ones who don't make it to their final destination caring for them and their families.

I have never been "eaten" by any of my colleagues and have enjoyed mostly wonderful, collaborative relationships with providers.

Don't give up and find your own joy in every day, every assignment and every patient. Even the difficult ones because they need you the most. Welcome to the sister hood and now brotherhood of nursing!!;) One must be politically correct.

I love my job. I have been nursing at the hospital I am at since January. I am a new nurse graduated last August and passed boards. I work at a small rural hospital and I work in the ICU and stepdown unit. I also work ER, OB and Med-Surg. I like to learn and I float someimtes to other areas. I would not change anything about my job...I miss not being there when Im at home. It is wonderful! My co-workers are the best! :balloons: I also get to do everything an RN does in my hospital, so I have learned alot.

Good LUCK! April

I love my job too! I am new...been in M/S for almost 6wks. I am a RNA (RN applicant). I work under the direct supervision of an RN & she is great! I do everything a real nurse does ;) Everyone there is nice & will help you in a heartbeat......I feel welcomed, & am learning so much from all of the experienced nurses. M/S is a busy place, & I run my butt off.......I like to be busy, & we have such a variety of pts...perfect fit for me!

I am so glad I started this thread, such encouragment reading all your posts!!!! keep em coming!!!
