Anyone live in Toledo?

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

My husband is in medical school and looking to do a residency in Toledo. I will graduate from nursing school next year and I am wondering about the area, places to live, good neighborhoods for children, etc. I am also wondering about good places to work for myself as a nurse. Any information would be great. Thanks.

How old are your children? Grade schools or high schools? We have many hospitals, three are trauma centers. I work at a small community hospital that was opened only two years ago. We are rapidly growing and need nurses in all departments, both days and nights.

My children are ages 7 and 22 months old. So, obviously grade schools and then daycares or hospitals which provide daycare. If you don't mind could you tell me the names of the hospitals, etc. - Thanks

Hospitals in Toledo area:

Medical College of Ohio

St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Center

St. Charles Mercy Hospital

St. Anne Mercy Hospital

Toledo Hospital

Flower Hospital

Bay Park Community Hospital

St. Luke's Hospital

I think that covers the hospitals. As for places to live, I liked living in West Toledo.

Good luck.

Our trauma centers are: St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center; The Toledo Hospital; Medical College of Ohio. The other hospitals are Bay Park; St. Anne's; and St. Luke's.

My granddaughter is 22 months old. She has a sister on the way. If you need the addresses and names of hiring personnel, let me know.

Thanks for the info. I believe the hospital my husband is looking into for a residency is The Toledo Hospital. We will probably go up this Christmas break and look around at the area. Are there any areas to steer clear of in terms of neighborhoods or housing?

St.V's has the best reputation by far(no I don't work there). Several nice suburbs around Toledo. Personally I don't think I would want to live right in Toledo.

I loved Vs and was sad to leave there. My inlaws still volunteer there/older. I grew up in Maumee and loved it and cannot wait to go back.

Are you considering only public schools or private as well?

We would be considering both depending on the area, etc. Has anyone heard anything about The Toledo Hospital?

My sister is a PT at toledo hospital and I know when I was looking for a job recently here after graduating she said that the nurses on the unit she works on primarily (transitional care unit) were at that time required to work either one day of overtime or sign up for an on call day. Whether that is still in place or is even hospital wide I am not sure.

I have an extended family member who works at Toledo ER and has for over 15 years. Loves it. Lots of OT potential. My son lives close to there.
