Anyone know about Touro Nevada Uniforms?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello pre-nursing and nursing students. I am currently wrapping up my prereqs to apply for the ELM program at Touro University in Nevada for the November start. I did speak with someone about the start dates at least. I was just curious about uniforms. Don't worry. I am not going to purchase anything until I hopefully get accepted. Is there anyone that has any idea if the uniforms are royal blue scrub top and royal blue scrub pants? Are the shoes required all white- closed toe and heel? Does the school of nursing allow the students to purchase any style of scrubs as long as they are the right color? I was just wondering because I am only 4'11" and like to order petite scrub pants. What do some of the other nursing programs require for uniforms? Best wishes all! Later.

Hi Timmytdao,

Sorry for the late post! I haven't been checking this board much since classes began in November.

I posted an informative post in another board:

As for the Life Span Psychology, I took it in California (I'm a CA resident) at Mission College in Santa Clara. It was an in-class course but you can take an online class as well (cingham mentioned taking it at Nevada State College).

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask!

Timmytdao:

Definitely wait until you get accepted before applying for financial aid because the school has to approve the loan (they have a long process to apply for FA). You should be able to get loans through FAFSA, Stafford and private. FAFSA only helps you if you have not received a bachelors degree (if you have one, they pretty much tell you tough luck). I'm funding my tuition through stafford (up to $12,500/yr) and the rest through private loans. If you do private loans, TRY to get a loan with the least amount of interest. Sallie Mae is a killer in interest (I'm at around 13%) but some people in my class have talked about having 3-5% at credit unions and Wells Fargo.

I really don't know what to say about getting extra loans for family reasons, I don't want to advise you in an area I'm not familiar with. I am single and live alone so I only borrowed the minimum required for me to survive (rent, food, gas, books, tuition, etc). I suggest you talk to a financial aid counselor about that topic.

Hey thank you so much, i really appreciated. All you almost done with nursing school? How hard is it? I am also from California, I applied and applied in california, but no one seem to accepted me. So i am thinking going out of state. Hopefully i can get in at Tuoro, do you think it fairly easy to get in with touro?

I think Touro is not too hard to get in and since it's a private school it isn't affected too much by the economic downturn. In nearby Nevada colleges lots of programs are cut because of funding, same as in California. When I applied I was told that either the program was closed for the time being or the amount of seats were reduced (or was waitlisted, haha).

I'm finishing up my first semester, right now is finals week. I have three more semesters to go (another 12 months) before I finish. Difficulty, I noticed, depends on the person and your study habits. Some classmates of mine struggle a bit, others seem to learn it very well and do well. I found that the first semester at Touro was good, a little unorganized at times but that's granted given that it's a new school and the program is still working out the kinks. A lot of changes have been made so that the incoming classes will have a smoother time.

I really like it at Touro, it feels very homey. The staff is nice and people are friendly. It's in one large enclosed building which requires keycard access and the security personnel do rounds every 15-20 minutes.

DEAR empyreal, i am so happy for you. You really are helpful. Again, thank you so much for responding and taking your time out to read my message. I was kinda lost until you given me some insight, not to mention, you given me hope. My GPA is not that bad, the only class i need to take is "life span psychology" and review for the TEAS exam. As for as Teas exam , do you have any recommendation, such as "how to review, what to review, and what material to review?" I didn't know you were from San Jose, that an 1 hour from Stockton. How long was the drive when you move down there? wow, i didn't know rent could be that cheap down there. Are you working while you are in school? Is there a lot of exam in 1st semester? Good luck on your finals!

Timmytdao-

The drive was about 8-9 hours (I went through Bakersfield), but it was an enjoyable drive with really nice scenery. I was lucky when I found my apartment, it's the cheapest one I found. Other places are at least mid-600s, the closer apts are about 700-800. I'm not working while in school though I am considering looking for a part-time job for the upcoming semester. We have lots of exams (practically every two weeks overall) but I don't think they are too difficult as long as you don't cram last minute.

When I took the TEAS, I wished I had studied conversions because they do ask a lot of questions on those (like kg to lb, tons, etc) so definitely take some time to look at your conversions. Also, know your English grammar. Alot of people suggest going to (http://www.testprepreview.com/teas_practice.htm) and I agree. The questions on those are very similar to the TEAS questions. You should also review basic sciences. I think if you do well on all the questions on that website then you'll do well on TEAS.
