Anyone know anything about something called PTP?

My M-I-L just called and said her neice, who just had a baby 5 days ago, developed something called PTP. I have never heard of this before but I think it has something to do with her blood clotting or something. Her kidneys shut down and they had transfused her with FFP. Also she has some visual disturbances associated with this. Does anyone have any input on this?

Thanks

I wonder if what is really meant here is ITP..which is idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura....low platelets with no known cause???

Best bet is to clarify with family - another reason why abbreviations can lead to misunderstandings.

My guess is Post-Transfusion Purpura. It's rare, but I remember my OB instructor talking about it...google it and there's some explanations out on the web. Sounds like what is being described.

If the FFP is being transfused, it is probably low platelets.
