anyone know anything about the "nursing Asst Academy" in Alabaster

Published

Does anyone know anything about this place. They have a huge sign that says Nursing Assistant Academy, new classes stating in March. It is in Downtown Alabaster on hwy 31. I am looking to find a place to get some training so I can get a job in the hospital when I start RN school this fall.

the nursing asst. school is associated with shelby ridge, a nursing home behind the shelby baptist hospital. they will pay for it if you commit to working for them for a year or you can pay 600.00 for the classes which are 2 weeks long

oh, thanks!

2 weeks---at night or do you have to go all day??

do you know anywhere else to get PCA/CNA training in Bimingham?

I would not do it. You can usually get a job without experience, just tell them you're going to nursing school.

I couldn't find the listing in the yellow pages - anyone know the phone number for the Nursing Assistant Academy? thanks!

Specializes in Pediatric Rehabilitation.

Most hospitals will hire you as a CA after your second nursing class. There is another CA program in the Gardendale area, but I don't know the name.

Specializes in LTC, geriatrics, hospice, etc.

You DONT want to work for Shelby Ridge. DONT do their class. I have heard some serious stories about that place from residents and family members where i work. NHS has a class free to anyone offered employment, with no contract. you take the class, train 30 days, then take your test. All while being paid (not much, but its something). They have facilities all over bham and tuscaloosa.

Dont do that crap, if you are a nursing student in clinical rotations, thats like solid gold to hospitals for PCA's. They know you are going to be part time / Flexi, so they don't have to worry about giving you insurance, and they know you will have good training. I worked as a psyc tech at Bwood and I am a Medical Assistant now for a surgeon, neither of which I have "certificates" to do. All you need is to make sure they know you are a nursing student in clinicals.

What is NHS an acronym for?

Specializes in LTC, geriatrics, hospice, etc.

NHS is Northporth Health Services. http://www.northporthealth.com They are a pretty decent operation. Product is right though, if you are already in school and have done at least one clinical rotation, a hospital will scoop you up in a minute. They love students. They are cheaper and alot more eager to prove themselves.

I was in nursing school (to be a RN) this summer, did one clinical, and have the necessary skills to work/train to become a CNA/PCT in a hospital - I've applied to MANY job positions for CNA/PCT and got NOTHING!

Most want you to be certified, and those that dont require you to be certified never responded to me eventhough I am qualified and listed out all I can do (I mentioned that I did pass all my assessments).

I don't know any other way to get a job as a CNA... unless you want to pay $999 to Jeff State (which I know you will be more than qualified when you're done there) and take 3 months of classes two times a week.

If anyone in the Bham area has gotten a job as a CNA/PCT without being certified PLEASE tell me how you did it.

If you got a job WITH being certified, please tell me where you got your training.

THANKS!
