I Need To Know If There Is Anyone In Pa Going Through Or Have Went Through This "vrp"??? I Am About To Start And Have Heard Some Bad Things.....is It Even Worth Doing??? Help Help!!!!
I was diverting Dilaudid from work this past April. Long story short I was fired in the beginning of June and have just recently started the VRP. I have so many questions but just a few if anyone can help. 1. Some one from the bureau of enforcement and investigation for the department of the state went to my mothers house and wants to speak with me. I was wondering how worried I should be. I contacted a lawyer who was recommended by my casemanager but I'm not working and it would be costly on top of all the others costs with the program. Do I really need a lawyer?? and 2. with the urine screening. I never had a drinking problem but I am under the impression they can detect alcohol (or vanilla extract, mouthwash, etc.) in your urine up to 5 days after you drank. Question being I am a bridesmaid in a wedding this November and was wondering if I would even be able to toast with champagne?? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If there is 1 thing I can recommend to you....some how, some way, get the lawyer......did u sign the papers yet? DO NOT talk to anyone without a lawyer, I am in this program, I wish I would have found out what I know now, for me it is too late. I am trying to help you in a big big way here. I know of 2 lawyers, dont know who was recomended to you or who your case manager is, but feel free to PM me and we can talk about it. Please dont do anything without lawyers help. From 1 nurse to another.......do yourself a favor......

It would be beneficial to talk to someone that has been through this. So let me know how we can talk more. Thanks!

I agree with this statement 100%. You need a lawyer. Don't talk to anyone without one.
Your second question, about the alcohol, yes you cannot drink while you're in the program. I have used perfume, lotions, and hand sanitizer without difficulty. I would watch what you ingest though. Things like mouthwash, and the vanilla extract. I havn't been brave enough to test those waters yet. nor do I think I ever will. Alcohol is not my drug of choice, but it easily could become it.
my story is a little different than the ones posted earlier, but i am in extream need of some advise. here goes nothing....i graduated in the spring with honors and was denied to take the NCLEXRN. when I was 19 and again when i was 22 i got caught driving under the influence of alochol (both time is was memorial day exactly 3 years apart). I am not 27 years old with 2 children. I am from a very small town where the cops have nothing to do excpet pick on young people. i weight 100lbs and on both occations, i only had 2-3 beers. i was placed on probation thru my county and was ordered to serve 5 days in jail and probation and op alcohol tx. which included random drug screening and weekly particitation in AA. I had to go thru all of this for 1 year. I complied in order to get off of probation. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ALCOHOL OR DRUG PROBLEM!!! the state told me i could take the nclex and i passed the 1st time. Then my dreams were shattered when they told me i was going to be i needed to be evaluated for alochol abuse. i did infact did this evaluation thru a doc that they sent me to. he said that i needed no treatment. i was so excited!!!! a few days later i got a call and the bon said i needed to be placed on a program called isnap, which is the same program u guys are talking about, it is just what indiana calls it. they want me to attend AA every week for a year, and call this 1800 # everyday to see if my # came up for a random drug sereen (this is for a year also). I have to pay for this outta pocket. i cannot seem to find a job bcause everytime i mention that i am involved in this program, the employeer just assumes i have a drug or alchol problem!!! I am currently appealing and will find out if my appeal has been granted on tues. I am wondering if the every grant appeals, or if i am just wasting my time. what is the next step after this? does this seem like excessive punishment to you? please help i need some guidance on this issue. my dreams have quickly turned into my worst nightmare!!!!

I just finished the program Dec.2008. Its not easy and feels like you will never see the end of it. But you can get through it. It is about 6 months before you can work on your license. Then 6 months of "supervised practice" You will have to have someone else administer your narcs. Also they submit 60 day reports of your job performance.Your supervisor that is. Before any of that even begins you will have to go to an out-patient rehab program. Then after completeing that you will begin weekly peer- support groups of fellow nurses in your same situation. You will learn alot there. Lets us not forget about the costly random urine screens daily calls to an automated system will tell you if you've been selected that day. Like I said its long and feels never ending but it is possible.
