would anyone graduating as an RN consider working as a LVN if no RN jobs available?

Published

Hi this is Bella and I am going to be entering my 3rd semester in nursing school. I am really freaking out about getting a job. I currently live in San Diego, and am getting discouraged because there are no RN jobs available for new grads. Today, I was looking at some jobs working from sharp hospital, and because so many hospitals want you to have experience, that if I can't get a job upon graduating, I might consider working as an LVN to get experience. What do all of you think? Obviously, I would love to get an RN job instead!!!

Thank you,

BELLA

You are working hard to successfully complete the NCLEX-RN, not NCLEX-PN. Get the RN job that you want. Do not give up.

I don't know the legalities of working as an LVN/LPN under an RN license, but considering I have student loans to pay on after graduating, I would do it.

Thank you for your response! I am actually glad I am not graduating until December 2011, because maybe by then things can change?

No. I am graduating from nsg school-RN program in 5 months. I am not studying to be a LVN, but RN. I wouldn't think of working as a LVN after passing NCLEX-RN and earning that title.

I don't see anything wrong with it if you absolutely cannot find a job out of school. There are RN's who work the floors here in Nursing homes just like an LVN but get paid a couple bucks more. I am also a student but I wouldnt totally dismiss it. SD is really big though- I would apply to everything first for RN. Or maybe do LVN and apply for PRN RN jobs? Hope you find something that makes you happy- There are many places a nurse can work, we just gotta find them. I myself was getting worried about the job market in the future but I'll worry about that when the time comes- Focus on getting your degree first :)

You're working hard for the title of Registered Nurse and once you've earned it, you have to keep moving forward.
