I'm trying to make decisions here and am looking for ANYONE who has done nursing modules through TCN and transferred them to EC and then graduated from EC LPN to RN program. The financing piece at TCN is attractive since you don't have to worry about coming up with $$ for books and testing/practice tests etc. they are all incuded in the price. Less hassle?? If anyone has done this let me know.

TCN is expensive and will NOT let you out of the contract for any reason.
Go direct. www.excelsior.edu
They'll help you work out paying.

Do a search on the site for TCN or The College Network. You will find plenty of input to help you make your decision about TCN. TCN does not "transfer" test results to EC because TCN does not administer the tests to you. You sign up for the tests and take them through EC whether or not you are paying a debt to TCN. The tests are EC tests administered by EC through Pearson testing sites. TCN does not administer the tests, they sell you study guides.
Good to know!!!

BostonNurse: If it helps, I paid aprox. $6000 for Excelsior and finishing up my general education. You can do a payment plan for the annual enrollment fee which I always took advantage of. After tax time we took a huge portion and set it aside to pay for testing and supply costs. They do have a payment plan for tests as well, but I didn't utilize it.
I ended up doing my general eds through my local CC which also makes it a little more expensive. If you fill out a FASFA, you may find out you qualify for grants to cover that cost. Also by filling out the FASFA, you may be eligible for scholarships at Excelsior.
And I was able to work full time for the majority of this. :) That in my opinion is one of the best benefits of choosing Excelsior.

I'm currently going to school through EC. I originally was going to sign up with TCN but realized they are just an overpriced publishing company. As previously mentioned, you do not have to transfer anything from TCN to EC as TCN just gives you their materials to study for the EC program. It just cost a whole lot more than doing it your own way! Best of luck!
Thanks everyone...Enrolling tomorrow! Can you take the tests in any order? What is the best order to take them? Also, where did most of you get your books from??
You can take them in any order you please. If you are somewhat OCD, you might want to take them in order so that they look nice on your transcript. A good idea to save money on books is to go to your local public library or school library and check out the book to use while you are studying for each test. If the local branch does not have the book, then request an interlibrary loan. I did this and found it to be quite suitable. You can buy the books later when you have a lot of money and can get a chance to pick and choose the books of your choice. Another alternative is to rent an edition that is one edition old from Chegg.com or another book rental website. I rented a text from them for $11.99 that was one editiion old. Or you can buy books from the various book websites.
