anyone going for the accelerated CNR

anyone going for the accelerated CNR prog this summer?

Congrats ACW2015.

Ka-trinaaa, the accelerated curriculum is the same as the individual track, the only difference is that we can take summer classes to finish faster than the individual track cohort. Both programs consists of 5 semesters and 59 credits. The accelerated track students can finish in 18 months but have no summer breaks, the individual track students can finish in 2-2.5 years but gets the summers off.

Thanks candycane. I hear you about 8 credits in 6 weeks being a lot. I was also accepted to LIU's accelerated program that starts this summer. But I ultimately chose CNR because although LIU is 15 months (shorter than CNR's 18), they squeezed 62 credits into 4 straight semesters, taking 15 credits during the summer sessions and 16 during the fall and spring was looking to be a bit too much for me. I want to do well, and felt that i didn't want to put myself in a situation when I can't due to pushing myself with too many credits at once, so I felt CNR's 18 month program was much more doable.

My only concern with CNR was their drastic decline in nclex pass rates these past 2 years. Although several schools have declined pass rates due to the changes in the exam and grading process, CNR's decline was significant. I know their new dean started last year and he is I implementing changes to the program, such as hesi exams etc, I just hope that the pass rates will be going up...

The individualized prog too can take summer classes if the gpa is right or good

Hi I will be attending the program in June Also, congrats on getting in!!

I want anyone who has been into CNR's accelerated nursing prog or know something they can share with me before the summer semester starts? I also want to know the names of text books and how much they cost. how should i prepare and some of the expectations in the prog.

Hello!! I will be starting in June also, if you get any advice please share, I'm nervous :)

Hi Candy Cane,

I was accepted as well. Will you be beginning classes in June? I'm interested in the same advice, have you found any?

Hi NurseAlly, I am not doing the accelerated program. I am going for the Individualized one in the Fall.

Hey Candy Cane,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm super late I know lol, sorry. So you went to the open house... How did you like the school? I decided to start in the fall as well.

Specializes in Neurosurgery, Neurology.

Yes, if you're in the individualized program, if you have at least a 3.5 GPA, you can take summer clinical classes to finish faster (they invite people starting from the highest GPAs on down, and when people decline, they continue down until it's full, only like 12 spots). You can take Nursing 3 (Peds and Maternity/OB) and Patho 2 your first summer, or you could do Nursing 5 and 6 (Community Health Nursing and Leadership/preceptorship) the last summer and you'd be done in August instead of December, which is what I'm hoping to do.

Other summer courses (like psychosocial, transcultural, research, patho (they call it "altered physiology"), etc) are open to all students with no GPA requirement.

Good morning ,

For those in the program, what is your class schedule like? And what hours were you able to work?

I'm scheduled to register next Wednesday so will let you know. But from what I can see when I logged in to look at course listings, the 6 week summer schedule is pretty much 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday. If that's the case, factoring in commute time and studying, I don't think working is possible. The following summer covers 12 credits, so working is out of the question then as well. When I went to the open house, they discouraged accelerated program students from working, but I think during the fall and spring semesters, a lot of students were able to work part time. I think the IT track has a bit more flexibility when it comes to working. I'm going to just focus on school for the 1st 2 semesters and see how it goes, then I will most likely look for a per diem job or volunteer.
