Good evening everyone,
I would like to ask if anyone here has been enrolled at Owens Community College in Toledo? I've heard that Owens is a great college specially for nursing and their passing rate was 98% as well as the job placement was great. How many years you have waited to get in? and what are the pre-requisites?
Thank you guys for reading.

Im at Owen's right now but going to be transfering to UT next Spring. I've taken A&PI & Lifespan Psych and am currently taking A&P II and Math. I like that they have classes available in evening (I work FT) and so far I have liked all the professors I have had. I LOVE their learning center and credit most of passing my lab exams to Jake the bio tutor in the learning center.
I believe their pre-reqs are A&P I & II, Micro, English, Math, General Psych, Lifespan Psych before you can apply for a seat.
However, the wait list is absurd. Last time I checked w/ them they were getting ready to fill the 2012 spots. So basically I'd be looking at just getting a seat for the last two years of school in 2013 and graduating in 2015. I'm not waiting six years to finish my ADN. According to the BON, Owens actually has the worst wait list time in the state. If you have low GPA though it's a good option because they don't give seats based on GPA, but rather at what point you've been on the list.
The cutoff GPA right now for UT's ADN program is a 3.0 and i'm certain that I will have that as long as I somehow don't fail a few classes. So basically as long as I meet the pre-reqs and have a 3.0 or higher I get a seat w/ no waiting.
I decided to finish out pre-reqs and other general ed requirements at owens to save some money and then transfer to UT.
If you think you might want to do that though check into it BEFORE you start at Owens. UT doesn't accept the same math or chem that you take for OWen's nursing program, you have to take a higher level course. They also don't require lifespan so I took that and didn't need to (but if I decided to go for my RN to BSN I can use it then).
There is a very nice recruiter named Jan at UT that walked me through everything.
Don't get me wrong, I think Owens is a good school and I like it, but I just can't see waiting until 2015 to graduate when I could be done by December of 2011.

I just came across this post and wanted to clarify something on the Owens wait lists. Yes, it seems outrageous when you first hear the wait list dates, but it's nowhere near as bad as it seems at first. I applied initiall in May of '09. I have a Bachelor's degree already in another field, but still needed several classes in order to meet the prereq requirements. I was awarded a seat to begin in August 2012. HOWEVER, now that I am completing my prerequisites at Owens, I can reapply at the end of this semester (less than two weeks from now) and will then my seat will be reevaluated. According to the advisor I spoke with, I should get bumped up to August 2011 (latest). And in the meantime there are a couple more classes required for the program that I can take before clinicals begin (intro to nursing concepts, patho, etc) So the wait list is really setting me back a year at most. Worth it to me to save the money.
Also, GPA does factor in with the wait lists at Owens. For example, when filling the August '11 seats, they fill from highest GPA down...so someone with a 3.5 is going to have a better chance of getting a seat than someone with a 2.6. The person with a 2.6 may not be able to start until January - depending on how many people are on the wait list.
