I was just wondering if anyone else was even near my time stamp of 10/16/2009, if so any insight as to when we will be called? I have 5 choices picked and was told when I first inquired at Gateway that it's about a 3-4 semester wait. Anyone else been told anything different? I read some of the post of people who got in this time, and it seems a lot of them were time stamped for October 2008, so with that can we assume we should be in by this time next year? Just wondering.:)
Thank you

Hi Chrystal. I have a time stamp from Oct 16, 09 at 8:04:51 AM. I was told 2-3 semester wait when I turned my apps in but like you, I've been talking to students who have most recently been placed and I am guessing we have at least a year wait. I was excited to hear about a friend who was placed with a time stamp from Dec. 09 this time around with her 2nd or 3rd pick.
Good luck to you & let's keep in touch. :)

Hi mamabear3755 and lizzyru,
Thank you for replying so soon:) Mamabear I too was hoping for Banner, that is by far my first choice, however, with all the new changes they are making I may find myself on the outside looking in because of low science grades and test scores:crying2: I'm not worried though, I am determined to be a nurse either way:D Lizzyru did I read your post correctly? Did you say you have a friend that got in with a time stamp of Dec 09? If so that's awsome, but it proves how crazy this process really is since her time stamp is after ours.
Good luck and I hope to hear from you both soon:lol2:
hi, again crystal. i saw that i had misspelled your name! sorry.
that dec. 09 was a typo - should have been dec. 08. so sorry!!! but just to plead my case of confusion, however, someone who had just turned in apps in december of '09 did get placed at pvcc without any special affiliation so i am not sure if there is any rhyme or reason to how some people slip through this process. crazy.. i know. but if we are lucky, we should see the message changed to "you have been placed" around a year from now. :) i am just praying!!

Lizzyru no worries about the spelling of my name, it's all good:lol2:. I do hope we get that message in about a year, the wait is killing me and with all the stories out there of new nurses not being able to find jobs, I just want to at least get this part of the ball rolling.
Good luck to you, and keep in touch:p

I'm not sure it this motivates or not but I had a October 17, 2008 time stamp 8:03 AM. I just got placed with my first choice at MCC for August 2010. And so did my friend who was about 25 placements after me.
We are all looking at less seats and really no way to compensate by showing grades or prior experience or BS/BA to get in.
It won't help with placement but as far as initial success in block 1 we hear it's probably a good idea to get a CNA certificate and study pathophys. The CNA just helps you figure out if you can deal with some of the things you might encounter as a RN. I received my CNA through RSAA last August.....was a very good experience and I would happy to discuss it with anyone who wants more info. I prefer sending me an email at [email protected]. As for pathophys my friend and I plan to just go thru the book and study guide before class starts. We also are studying a Med/Surg book at our convenience.
I have a BS already but they can't find Eng 102 on my transcript....so guess what? I'm taking that class starting the Monday after Easter though Rio. My children took that class.....Funny thing is...they want me to read Dan Brown type novels for part of my 'sources'. I think this might be a fun course...I hope so.

Hi Javamobo,
Thanks for that insight. I too have a B/S, but unfortunately it has nothing to do with Nursing or even a science for that matter:uhoh3: If what you are saying serves as any type of calculator, I'm hoping to be in by Fall 2011. As for the English, I also do not have English 102 and was told by several councelor's that they waive that and the reading portion of the requirement, so unless you really want to take it, I would go to another campus other than the campus who told you to take it and get another opininion. From my understanding the English 102 can be substituted by something else you have already taken because of the Bachelor's you hold.
Trust me when I say, the system works for people who are 18 and are just entering college, it gets a little fuzzy with people like us who have prior credits. The information I was given about the English 102 supplement was told to me by several different advisors at different schools.
As far as the CNA license goes, I do agree with you. I too have taken a CNA course in the state of Kansas. It was 3 years ago, but it can in many ways help you to see what life is really like in the profession at the lower end of the totem pole as they say.
I wish you the best and good luck:yeah:
Congrats to you:yeah:

Aww man. I have a BBA and was told I most definately had to take ENG 102 to satisfy the writing requirement, even though I had mutiple writing intensive courses that were not English classes. I took Eng 102 this past past Spring online. I'm glad I took the class, but it would have been nice to get a waiver and be able to have taken something else during that timeframe.
NewBeginning,
I know that's right, there are far too many other courses I would like to take and English 102 was not one of them. I am looking through my email for the message that was sent to me by one of the advisor's at Rio about substitution when it comes to English 102, when I find it I will post it.
I'd like to see that substitution letter as well. I tried to get a waiver but they said no. Maybe it depends on who you are talking to. I'm pretty sure that I took Business Communication instead of Eng 102. But whatever, it might be just as well as it will get me back in the groove of studying. It's been a year since I took Microbiology (that seems hard to believe....how fast time flies).
I just heard back from one of the advisor's at Rio, although they no longer offer the program, I was told there and also SCC about the English 102 substitution. They are saying it all depends on where you applied and if that school is willing to waive it or not. Like I said before the system works really well for people who are just entering college for the first time, but for those of us who have previous degrees and credits from other places, it's sometimes a slippery slope. I think its a little strange that anyone who has a Bachelor's degree and who wants to come back to a community college for a degree less than a Bachelor's would have to then take a English course:mad: Wouldn't your Bachelor's degree prove you can read, write, spell and understand or comprehend what you are reading or being told? I dont know just seems odd to me. If it helps any I applied at SCC. I was however told about the English 102 rule at Rio, GCC and SCC.
