I have a boss that's constantly messing with my schedule and I'm getting pretty tired of it.

First I was mon-fri, then he changed to tues- sat (mind you 10 hour shifts with a 2 hr lunch so he won't have to pay OT for).

Now! He wants me to come in on mondays (one of my 2 days off) for this mandatory meeting because tuesday's don't work out for him.

I really don't want to come to work on mondays, It's a half hour drive for me each way. It's only an hour and he said he'd pay OT for it. But...I'd just rather have the day off!

This is one thing he won't compromise on.

The only reason I haven't quit yet is because I really need the insurance for a possible heart surgery soon.

Other than taking another day off instead of monday, which splits my weekend up, I can't think of anything.

Any ideas?

I'm sorry you've got a boss who abuses his power like that.

Don't really have any brilliant ideas, but I'd sit down and have a discussion with this guy, reminding him that you started out working Monday through Friday, and since he now wants you to be present for this meeting on Mondays, and it cannot be re-scheduled, it makes sense that you would go back to working those days.

I'd explain that driving in for the meeting is not the same as having a day off, and that you feel very strongly that having split days off is not in your interest either. So......you see the compromise as working Mon - Fri.

If he balks at this, he may be just on some power trip to see how badly he can mess with his employees lives. You can decide if its worth the health benefits to put up with split days off. Good luck!

"Oh shoot I totally forgot about that meeting yesterday" works too.

Don't forget to leave your cell at home while you are out running your errands.

Unfortunately, the way the schedule is now, theres only two nurses, and in order to make sure all days are covered one works sun-thur and i work tues-sat.

Well, I don't know if it would work for you, but when I worked graveyard shift, and they had this weekly 'mandatory' meeting at 2 pm, I simply explained that no one would expect a day shift worker to come to a meeting at 2 am, and I would not be able to attend at 2 pm.

They could videotape the meeting, or someone could take the minutes, or better yet, tape it and I'd listen or watch it during my lunch hour at night. After that I never attended the meeting and if there were important points someone typed up notes for nightshift to read.

Good Luck with finding a happy compromise!
