Anyone else suffering from burnout?

Published

Hey everyone...

I've been floating around on this site for about a year now. Learning all kinds of things about the nursing field.

I have a few nurses in my family, but I decided to go back to school for nursing after witnessing a coworker and friend pass away from cancer last summer.

Anyway...

I've been in school for almost a year. I only have AP2 and MicroBio left to take next semester...which I'm actually psyched about. It's just getting through the next month and half of this semester that seems to be DRAGGING.

I'm hoping to apply next month to start core nursing classes in the fall.

Basically, I feel like I've hit the wall. I'm taking Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Medical Law & Ethics this semester. Maybe it's just the information, or that I work full-time as well as go to school, but I'm starting to get burned out. I find myself waking up and getting to work later and later. Thinking about exams, final projects, and graded discussions due within the next 8 weeks make my brain hurt, but I don't really have a choice. :lol2:

Of course I realize things could be crazier. I just needed to vent - and maybe find someone else that's starting to go through Organic Chem... :)

Thanks gang....

Jules

I totally feel for you. Last semester was like that for me. I had O-Chem, Psych, Computer, and Algebra. I work full time and have a child too. Mid-semester I woke up just bawling one morning because I just did not want to go to class, go to work for 8 hours (and worked through lunch break every day), then go to class right after work. My mental health definitely took a few blows!

When I feel burned out, I like to go to the funny nursing stories part here and read some silly nursing stuff. It kind of gets me jazzed all over again to start nursing school, and the burned out feeling melts away. Read through the "icky, yucky, grossest nursing story" thread and "your best nuring ghost story" thread on here too. They're very entertaining and it makes me long to be apart of this profession.

And if all else fails, call out sick from work one day, and for those 8 hours, just stay in bed and watch TV. Take a mental health day. You deserve one every now and then!

That's one way things would be crazier for me. I don't have kids...yet. Unless you count my husband...he's a 15 year old trapped in a 30 year old's body. :) Maybe after nursing school...we'll see.

Anyway, great idea about checking out the funny nursing stories...I'll do that.

And a mental health day is sounding AWESOME right now - especially since I just got an attitude from one of my managers. Oh well...can't make EVERYONE happy, right?

Thanks!
