Anyone else starting nursing school in the fall???

Published

I was just curious if anyone else is starting nursing in sept 2008. I am really exicted, scared and nervous. I can't believe that I still have one month to wait. The months since feb 2008 since I got accepted have been long. I was just curious what other new students are feeling about the waiting game. Also, I was curious what school your going into??? I am going to Lambton College in Sarnia. Thanks good luck to all!!!

The clinicals really help you find yourself in nursing.. You really get a feel for what you like.. Yeah most people (including me) really wanted to get into peds in their first year or two but once they start to get exposure to other things, most change their minds.. I had a placement on a GI oncology med-surg floor, a transitional care unit.. also was doing school nursing, then went to a breastfeeding clinic where I got to shadow in L&D for a bit but I am still undecided about what exactly I want to do.. YES i'm in 4th year and still haven't pinpointed it!... I was just thinking of doing the traditional 2 years in med-surg and then see what else after that? Do you have any idea what you want to do in the future?:stone

Yeah I always have wanted to get into NICU or peds as well, second choice would be OR but I'm assuming that you need specific training for that.

Another question about clinicals (sorry I'm such a pest, but Centennial is so vague, lol). Do you usually get your choice of placement when you submit your preferences? Plus, I live in the east end of Scarborough, so they won't give me some ridiculous placement in Mississauga or Bolton or something, will they? traffic would be crazy =/

Thanks for all your help :)

Hi Utopia!

So sorry for the delay.. don't worry, ur not being a pest.. I know it's hard to get information and you're anxious to have it.. In first year, they just assign you to a LTC facility which is in Scarborough.. at the end of first year, they will have you fill out a 2nd year application form where you can apply for sick kids (with an essay) and choose your top 3 choices of areas to be placed.. However, that doesn't always mean that you'll get what u asked for. I also live in Scarborough so that was my top choice however, in my 2nd year semester 1 placement I got a west end hospital and 2nd semester I got a downtown hospital. Umm first sem wasn't too bad cuz our instructor negotiated for us to start at 11 am but second semester we needed to be on the floor, in our scrubs, ready to assess pts at 6:45 AM.. FROM SCARBOROUGH!.. haha.. so it was quite interesting to say the least.. Even in 4th year where they ask us to choose what kind of floor we want to be on, alot of people didn't get anything close to what they asked for i.e. asking for cardiology and getting LTC!!!.. so i dunno.. it's kinda the luck of the draw!.. good luck! only 14 more days!

Thanks, I'm so excited :) I just bought a new laptop yesterday and got the last of my requirements completed. Woo hoo!!! Thanks so much for your help. Keep me posted on how your last year is going :) I'll definitely be bugging you again with questions soon :p

The thing with this program is that if you fail one of the nursing courses, you have to repeat them ALL..

wow this really scares meee!!!
