I wont be allowed back in my house for several days. As of right now my school is open tomorrow?? Crazy. No more quiet study space for a while. I heard it will many days to restore all power. The good news is I am not stressed about school anymore. We are safe and that is what is important. My heart goes out to the families of those killed or missing.

What a way to start the school year!!!!

Pixie, the city told me the tree entangled with power lines in my drive way won't be removed for a day or two. Then they can work on restoring power. We decided to leave. We hadn't heard any news or updates since we moved the car earlier today.

Did they cancel your classes tomorrow?

Yes, classes are cancelled at St Vincent's...kind of bummed about that. But I have power, everyone is safe, we have no damage to our home, yard or trees, so its all good. I've extended the open door to all my friends/family without power. Need a hot shower, a hot meal, LIGHTS..lol..I'm here for them.

you're awesome. We have classes tomorrow. Only the classes before 10am are cancelled.

The decision to open the college tomorrow for the first day of classes was made with careful consideration of the magnitude of the recent storm and the aftermath. The Governor has cleared the major arteries for travel and winds are expected to abate overnight with a sunny, warm day predicted for tomorrow. That said, I do realize that many of you are dealing with the challenges that come with fallen trees and power lines. In the event that you are prevented from coming to campus tomorrow, please contact your professor (students), or your supervisor (faculty, staff) and let them know. I urge everyone to use their own good judgment in the next few days, and to make the decision to commute to campus according to your individual circumstances.

This is the only school I know that is open, and the main campus is on the water???

I'm reading by the light of my hurricane lamp. Reading the first 5 chapters of my Patho book for the first day. We have been without power 31 hours and counting. We lost electricity 3 pm Saturday in VA.

Sunny, warm day or not..the problem being most places have no electricity :)

My power is back on thankfully, but the rest of my family and friends are in the dark. We've had great times visiting and sharing our shower, fridge, and microwave! I'm from coast of NC and we got hit hard! It hit us Friday night and early Sat. and we are just now getting traffic lights to "flash" (a few work properly) but much of this area is in the dark and spending the daylight hours cleaning up outdoors. One person had a tree split their home in half (literally, the front door was the point it split) from a tree, and half the home is sunken now. My brother's home had an electrical spark from the room coming off, so it too is unliveable until insurance people start making their rounds. My house smells like STENCH while we have shop-vacked the standing water out of the back, and have a dryer on it (2 days now).

So, yes, I studied by flashlight this weekend seeing that our first exam is tomorrow (school was cancelled today).

Wish me luck, with an earthquake and then a hurricane, and tornado warnings this evening... I'm personally ready for some sunshine!

Hope all of you are well,
