Anyone else going to the Nursing Career Fair at Jacob Javits on 10/21?

Hi all,

I hope all of you are well. Are you going to the Jacob Javits career fair on 10/21? I've never been to one before, so if you have gone to one before please share your experience. How did you organize your day? Did you get your RN job this way? Do I need a cover letter with all the resumes? Thanks so much!

Sincerely,

-Jobless

The career fair at the Javits Center already took place back in October. Luckily, there is a similar one, with many of the same hospitals and attendees, being held next Tuesday November 9th at Citifield in Flushing Queens. Heres the link to the event, http://nursingspectrum-newyork.eventbrite.com/. Just bring lots resumes, you won't get interviewed there, but maybe something positive will come of it, especially if you have experience. Good Luck!

Yes, sorry for forgetting to clarify the Jacob Javits fair already took place. I thought she would have realized that with the thread title. oops. Does anyone else know about another one coming up for hospitals (in house I mean)? I registered for the one in Flushing already.

Make sure you bring some hope. Maybe a lucky rabbit's foot.

I'm debating whether to go to the nursing spectrum job fair in Flushing on Tuesday. I went to the Javits Center fair and nothing came of it. This fair will include mostly the same exhibitors/hospitals. I did rewrite my resume to hopefully get more notice, but I wonder if anything will be substantially different than 3 weeks ago. Also Flushing is harder for me to get to than Manhattan. Thoughts?

me too, now... it's kinda far and you're right, same exhibitors... maybe some face time at HRs is more productive.

I just got back from the job fair. It was pretty much as I expected -- same hospitals, same long lines, same "we'll keep you in mind when anything opens" welcome that new grads get everywhere. New grads even had to wear a different type of name badge

Positives--I got to meet a few classmates. Found out that if you want to work for continuum (Beth Israel, St. Lukes/Roosevelt and one other hospital) you can come for a walk-in interview on Tuesdays. There was a resume review booth and I was told my resume looks great (at least we know it's not my resume that's at fault) but he gave me some tips for improving it.

BTW I heard from a few of my classmates that they got interviews at Maimonides (no job offers yet). I'm not sure what was the magic button they pressed. But it's worth a try applying since they are considering new grads.
