What are the prereq's for Grayson's program? I have emailed the director of the nursing department and have still not heard back from them.
A&P I and II, microbiology, college algebra, must be taken before they will even consider your application. Co-req. English 1301 and 1302, general psychology, child and lifespan, and socioloy, and a an elective.
all these classes must be taken. Some of the students were accepted without completing all of their co reqs, and are taking them while they are in the nurses program. Personally I say try to get all you pre-reqs and co reqs out the way first before trying to jungle them and the nurses program.
You must also take the HESI entrance exam and score an 75 or better.
There is a point system to get in. They usually except 21-28 points, it just depends on how many they are accpeting. My freshman class in 2006 was 120. The freshman class this year was 90, so it all depends.
The point system works this way:
Science Courses: A=3 points, B=2 points, C=1 points (if you get an A and lecture and an A lab that is 6 points)
All the co-reqs are 1 point a piece regardless of your grade as long as it is a C
The Hesi exam: A=3, B=2, C=1
I hope this help you some, you can also go on grayson.edu and click on programs and find ADN program and it wil give you more information.
GOOD LUCK

I just graduated from Grayson in May. I think it is a good program. Although all programs have their faults and Grayson is no exception things are changing and I think those changes are going to be very positive.
You will certainly be prepared for your NCLEX exam.
Be prepared to study in a way you never have before. My only advice is to hold off on buying any of the study guides that go with the text books until you've had a chance to look at them and see if you think they will help you. I didn't find them helpful AT ALL and never used them. I ended up selling them on amazon and e-bay for less than 15.00 a peice.
Good luck to you!

Oh, I forgot something...
Don't try to contact the director/dean, she's a very busy woman dealing with the administrative end of things. If you HAVE to contact someone in the department start with Chris Hix the program assistant. Helping students and prospective students get information is her job.
If you want to see what the pre-req's are for the program follow this link. http://www.grayson.edu/pdffiles/NURS.pdf .
If there is anything you need to know about the program or Grayson in general, just send me a message. I worked there for several years before I went into the program and information was my middle name. I'll direct you where you need to go.

Have 2 questions :
1. The Admission deadline is March 31th. So, Nursing Courses started in the Fall?
2. Is there a waiting list? if so, is it a long one?

Nurses courses start in the fall, and as far as a waiting list, while they are a lot of people that turn in their application, they may not all be placed on the waiting list unless their files are complete. my advice is to not let waiting list discourage you from applying. when I applied I was not chosen when the school sent out the first acceptance letters for the year 2006 and now I am in my 2nd year of nursing. Apply and complete your application and submit all the neccesary documents by MArch 31st. Also another user has posted a link for Grayson's ADN program, and it will give you alot more information. Good luck to you.
this is from Grayson handbook:
selection and acceptance reuirements:
appication must be turned in, GED or high school and other college transcripts must be turned in before March 31st. applications will not be evulated until all required documents have been submitted. completed aplicationsare placed on a waiting list, and these applicants will be evaluated for selection, based on a point merit, students with the highest points will be selected first, if they there are vacancies after this the students with the next highest points will be selected.
Yes, the admission deadline is March 31st. You will receive your letter at the end of May. You will either get an acceptance letter and a card to return stating you will indeed start in the Fall or decline. OR you will receive a letter stating that you didn't make the cut and I believe a card to return asking to remain on the list. Just before classes start in the fall there are a few admissions from the waiting list made due to no shows. However the following year you don't get any bonus points for being on the previous years waiting list. You start all over.
Every year the points get higher for admissions. When I was admitted they took everyone with 18 or more points and I believe a few 17 pointers.
Classes start in the fall unless you're repeating a semester. They're hoping to start a spring admissions class but due to a small number of instructors this has not been possible.
