Anyone a COPE Clinical Care Extender?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi there,

I am looking into volunteering in the COPE Clinical Care Extender program in Southern California. If you could help answer a few questions, that would be great!

1. How hard is it to get into volunteering for this opportunity? (I do not have ANY healthcare experience. At most, I'm taking my first nursing pre-requisite class.)

2. What hospital did you or do you volunteer at? What kind of experiences did/do you have?

I'm starting to prepare myself for a 2nd career in the healthcare industry (possibly nursing but I'm not sure yet). I already have a bachelor's degree and hope to volunteer at a hospital to get me better exposure at what healthcare professionals do.

Thanks so much for your time!

Ya I wonder the same thing... That would be awesome!

Anyone? I'm a COPE CCE right now and starting RN school in August. Just wondering if I might have a better chance of getting hired at my hospital after finishing school. Heard many hospitals are only hiring BSNs as new grads.

I would hope that would improve your chances!

Which hospital are you at?

Valley Presbyterian in Van Nuys. Going to College of the Canyons RN program in August.

Question for any interviewers!

I did an interview in march and got rejected. I'm going to try again this June. I was wondering what you interviewers want in order to get in. I heard you get points for silly things like bringing your own pen and answering first. I tried to answer first everytime but this other interviewee would interrupt.

Any tips on how to get in? I need volunteer hours to apply to NS this Oct.

Thanks!

how do you apply??

For the people that got accepted in program how long did it take for you to know you got in and how were you notified.

Any tips or tricks to getting in? I got denied the first time I tried this. I am hoping to get in because all of the hospitals around me are overbooked with volunteers and I need 100 hours by next March and it has to be "direct patient contact". I have my CNA license but there aren't any jobs so Im volunteering.

Any help would be great!

I would suggest reaching out to the on-site CCE Manager and asking how you can improve your application/interview to join the program.

or why not join an EMT program? Better cases imo :D

i would but the school i applied to give extra points for volunteering/healthcare job....which is due by march 2012 so i dont exactly have a lot of time on my hands and just about all hospitals around me are overbooked for volunteers right now! can you believe that? ugh so alas i guess i am screwed...unless you know of like an 8 week EMT program lol! i have my CNA license but no experience so its hard to even get a job as that! btw i need 200+ volunteer for max points or documentation of CNA job (doesnt matter how long i was there) so yea....i guess i am SOL

Hi,

I have an interview for CCE @ Hoag this month. I was trying to see what my chances are of being accepted... What type of people are they looking for? Do they have preference on whether the applicant is enrolled in a nursing program? Anyone currently in the program at Hoag and can share their experience?

I'm planning on attending a CC for Spring 2012 semester to take some pre-reqs and figure out if ABSN is the route I want to take but I can't make that decision and fully commit if I don't get any experience in a hospital setting to see if it is actually what I want and can handle.

Thank you!
