Anyone doing their BSN through Excelsior?

Published

Just wondering if anyone is currently or has used Excelsior for their BSN and what their experience was.

I did not like that they changed to requiring one to have an RN first. It used to be that one had a choice between the ASN or BSN program for prelicensure. With the change, someone would have to do both, and thus pay EC twice.

Specializes in LTAC, Telemetry, Thoracic Surgery, ED.

I'm going through EC for my BSN now. I did my LPN to RN with them and felt comfortable. It's not bad. I haven't tried any other program but the thought of going back to class if I didn't need to was not for me. I enjoy the online format it just takes a lot of disipline (sp?). Some of the classes you need a video camera for.

Can't complain though because it still ended up cheaper than some of the alternatives.

I'm only approx. 1/2 way done. I have a lot of Gen. Ed's but they take almost all CLEP / DSST's for credits. That's a real money saver, that's what ended up the deciding factor.

I'm just waiting to take my RN boards and then I'll be starting the program... what do you need the video camera for? Is it some kind of videoconferencing thing... can you just have a webcam?

Suesquatch said you have to have someone videotape you doing assessments. You have to do the assessment in a clinical looking area. She quit the program because of requirements like this. This is one of the reasons I won't get my BSN through Excelsior. I feel it is too much.
