Anyone attending Kaplan or Walden University?

Nursing Students NP Students

I am currently looking into and applying to several FNP programs. I am wondering if anyone has attended or is attending either Kaplan or Walden? If so, what has your experience been like so far? Thanks!

anyone here from texas that is already a student of walden? I just wanted to ask about the eligibility to take the licensure in texas as an APN if you graduate from walden's fnp or agnp program... thank you.

tadahh99 I am also in Texas. At the time I was looking at schools UTA did not have an online MSN/FNP program. I chose Walden & all was well with the didactic portion of the program. Problem came when I tried to find a preceptor. I was having no luck on my own so I reached out to the school...numerous times & got absolutely no response to voicemails or emails & I couldn't get the right person on the phone. I DO NOT recommend Walden for MSN/FNP. If you are a Texas RN UTA now has their program online. I chose to transfer even though I am losing 17 credits (only 9 trans from Walden). It's worth it to have a degree from a very reputable school with an excellent nursing curriculum. FYI the issues I had with Walden are not isolated to just me. I had classmates that were having similar problems.

Stay the hell away from Kaplan. You can PM me for more info.

So if you didn't have any problem with looking for a preceptor it would not have been a problem?

Specializes in Pediatrics, home health, travel nurse.

SweettartRN can you PM me with more information about Kaplan. I tried contacted you but it's states your PMs are full

Specializes in ICU/Supervision/ER/AGACNP.

I know that I'm going to catch a bunch of crap for this, but I'm going to voice my opinion anyway. There are no standards for schools such as Kaplan and Walden. These schools take anyone who applies--it's a money racket. They have poor academic quality and from what I've seen they produce poor quality practitioners. Additionally, most of the people I know who have gone to Kaplan or Walden applied to real colleges or universities and were denied. Yes, you may learn enough information to pass your boards. But, passing your boards is not what makes a provider. There is so much more. I personally attend Georgetown University's AGACNP program, and when compared to Walden, Maryville, and Kaplan our education surpasses by far. If you want a quality education and to become a quality provider, go somewhere else.

Specializes in nursing education.

Consider this catching hell for your comments about Walden. FYI I was accepted to many school and CHOSE Walden. You don't go there to pass boards- you already had to have a minimum of an Associates degree and be a RN. I did their MSN with a specialization in Nursing education. They did not have an FNP when I went. I found the work challenging and I learned a lot. It is a widely recognized and accepted university. You had to maintain a high GPA and if it dropped you were dismissed. I guess every university has some bad apples. I got a great Education there.

Oh yes- they are accredited by the CCNE so I guess they are doing something right

I am interested in applying for kaplan university FNP program. Anyone more comments?

How much is tuition? and how long? I have a bachelor non nursing and I am RN. Do they require BSN?

Absolutely correct. They put very little money or effort into their students, and are a huge issue in the NP profession as they are:

1. Oversaturating the market by taking EVERYONE who applies and graduating thousands of nurse practitioners.

2. Reducing the prestige of nurse practitioners (no other medical profession has FOR PROFIT programs).

3. Graduating lower tier students who make the profession look bad.

The only thing these schools care about is making as much money as possible while spending as little as they can on instruction. Any school with endless advertisements "BECOME A DNP 100% ONLINE IN 2 YEARS!!!" is embarrassing.

The CCNE seems to accredit anyone. They don't have very high standards when compared to PA or MD accrediting bodies. Hence why we have for profit schools in the first place, as well as HUGE variability between the quality of NP graduates.

I was considering Kaplan. How is your experience with them?
