Anyone applying to Pratt Community College LPN to RN program?

Published

I plan on applying to the May 2016 Pratt Community College LPN to RN program.

Is there anyone else who is in the process of applying this year or has applied in the past few years?

Also, I would love to hear from someone who has in the program recently like the last 2 years. I am curious to know how many people are accepted and what are the odds of my getting into the program.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Icuceu's. There have been significant changes to the program. For instance, clinicals are now held once a week. I would suggest that you contact Mr. Frank Stahl at Pratt Community College. He can be contacted by email [email protected]

Pratt college is a good choice so is hutchinson communtiy college if you want to get a good rounded education. Both schools have great programs. Hutchinson tests are online non proctored pratts are online and proctored. Both have great programs to get you to the next level of nursing.

Hello everyone. Does anyone know where I can take an IV certification course that Hutchinson would accept?

I know this thread is a little old, I am wondering if anyone has any insight on the Hutchinson online medic to rn bridge program? I recently applied with finger crossed that I get in!

I understand the Pratt bridge is mostly online with the exception of orientation and clinicals?

Thanks All!

Hutchinson actually has an IV Cert class in Hutchinson, McPherson, and Newton I believe. So, you can go to any campus. Also, they have an online class and I took it.

I graduated from the Hutch online bridge program in December 2014. I wrote about my experiences earlier in this thread but if you have any other questions then I'll do my best to answer them. Some things may have changed since then, I don't know, so contacting Hutch might be more helpful. I definitely recommend the program.

Kelly, How did you like HCC? Did you do the online bridge program?

Hey! I'm looking at applying there and I know they said they evaluate on point system there.. could you tell me more on what that breaks down to and how they select applicants? Thanks!

I realize this OP asked this question almost 10 years ago, but my experience with PCC's nursing program was so bad that to this day I consider it one of my top 3 bad decisions of all times.

To give you some background I now have a law degree from a big 10 school and finished my undergrad at another big 10 school with a 3.6 GPA in a STEM field, graduating with distinction in the top 10% of my class. In other words, I am not a poor student.

I probably would have stuck with the medical field had I not had the unfortunate experience of attending PCC's Nursing Program. I dropped out after a year of emotional abuse by the professors there, particularly Diane Oakes, who is one of the most toxic educators that I have ever encountered anywhere. It's hard to believe that she worked in nursing, but even harder to believe that anyone would have put her in charge of a program as a dean after spending 15 minutes alone in a room with her. The comments with a sense of entitlement that she made about the military and her perceived privileges as the wife of a former lieutenant colonel still make my blood boil when I think about it. She is the type of officer's wife that every enlisted Soldier dreads having to deal with.

The professors of nursing that worked under her were not any better. Jan Blaise was the most unprofessional instructor that I have ever dealt with. There is absolutely no reason that a nursing instructor should every scream, yell, or curse at a nursing student on the clinical floor. Her behavior was unacceptable and beyond excuse. Absent an emergency there is no reason to ever raise your voice above conversation level, but during my last clinical rotation at the Pratt Hospital I was five minutes late at the end of my shift due to finishing up patient care because there wasn't anyone else to take over for me. Her response was to shriek obscenities at me in the hallway in front of nurses and patients.  That was the last straw for me and I withdrew from the program after that.

I made an appointment with the President of the College and asked him to address their behavior and Dr. Wojciechowski's response was to brush it off.

My advice to anyone who is considering the PCC Nursing Program is to attend WSU instead or KSU/KU. They lost their accreditation for awhile, which they honestly needed to, all things considered. But I doubt that this is now a stellar program that will help students succeed as RNs in the healthcare field. Spend the money to go to a real 4-year university. It will pay off in the long run.

Despite going into law and now having a career that I am passionate about my experience at PCC was literally emotionally devastating. 20 years later I still sometimes have times where my confidence is not where it should be because of what I went through at that school. No one should have to experience what I went through there.
