I submitted my completed application on November 23rd and I'm anxiously waiting. I attended the open house in September and fell in love with the program. I just thought I would check in here and see if anyone else is in the same boat. It would be interesting to have someone to commiserate with during this awful waiting game :) :typing
EarthyGirl and others, I'm sorry you weren't admitted straight out, but I think the way they are handling it speaks volumes about the quality of the school! I mean, really, starting in January would not be that bad (it would give you more time to save money!).
Clearly you all impressed them enough to ask you to keep your apps open and be willing to start in the Spring...that says a lot. Stay positive and hopefully we'll see you there in January.
Hi! I am new to this forum. I am not sure if anyone out there is still reading this thread, but if so, you are probably in the same boat as I. I was first "denied" entry for Fall '09, but asked to apply for Spring 2010. A couple weeks ago I was told they could move a few more people to the waitlist. I am starting out at 9 out of 27. Melissa said they would start pulling from that waitlist late last week. Is there anyone out there waiting with me and do you know whether there has been any movement? I am trying not to bug Melissa. Also, I would love to commiserate with anyone STILL waiting like I. :icon_roll
Thanks!
mewjen,
I am in your boat and anxiously waiting to hear about the waitlist situation. I was also originally denied admission to the Fall cohort and was asked to transfer my app. over to the Spring 2010 cohort. Honestly, I would be thrilled for either at this point and there are pros and cons to be accepting to either semester and would really like the clarity that all of the hard work has been for something. I would like to say congratulations to you! Melissa mentioned that they did not ask everyone to transfer apps. and I consider our chances in Spring to be much higher if we are waitlisted now. It sounds like there is a lot of rollover in each cohort of qualified applicants they did not have room for. I myself, need to work on my GRE score as I have now officially aced all of my prerequisites:up: I can understand the decision to wait on my acceptance because at the time of the decision I was enrolled in 18 hrs. of prereqs. for the DUSON. I don't plan on interviewing again because i was told I had very good remarks on my first one and it wasn't necessary to keep interviewing.
Even though we are in a very big waiting game at the moment, I am still 100% sure that DUSON is the best place for me to be.
What are your thoughts on the waitlist?
Hey! I was in the same situation, and after emailing Melissa, I found out that I was number 3 out of 30 on the waitlist (I wonder why she told you it was 27? Maybe people dropped off??) I have not yet heard anything from them, but I am anxiously waiting! I am ready to start looking for a roommate and an apartment.... Hopefully I will hear soon. I was thinking about emailing Melissa again, but like you I don't want to bug her anymore! Good luck to you! Hopefully we will be able to meet in August!!
Hi NRGnurse and caycay18!
NRGnurse - thanks for the congrats! Like you, I have a couple of pre-reqs to finish as well. I am hopeful that the addition of a few good grades, an academic recommendation, and volunteer hours will help my app. for the spring if I don't make it into the fall cohort. Fortunately, I didn't have to take the GRE for Duke's admission since I have a masters. But, I feel for you! I have never cared for standardized tests. Hang in there!! If you live in NC (like I do), the oppressively hot weather we have had lately should make it easier for you to study!! Duke is definitely the right place for me to be as well. It is just hard to wait because I can't make any plans and I am a planner! Do you know what I mean?
caycay18 - thanks for your response! When did you last talk to Melissa? I spoke to her early last week. She did say a few people dropped, but unfortunately not in front of me! I, too, hope we get to meet in August. I am local so let me know if you need help finding a place to live. Way to go number 3!
I expect you will hear good news soon.....I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!
Hi everyone! I'm glad to find this thread :-)
I'm not so sure if this thread is still active, esp since Fall 09 apps are over and done with. But I'm applying for the Spring 10 program, and I guess I'm just a little worried about how competitive I am...esp, since I applied to JHU in the Fall...and long story short-- ended up getting rejected after all. It was a humbling experience, and somewhat unexpected. Plus everyone keeps telling me that Duke is the Ivy of the South...ahh!!..ahhh!!!!!......
So, if you feel like sharing... I'm just curious as to what everyone's stats are (cumulative GPA/ pre-req GPA), experiences, if you were accepted, etc. etc.
Advice? What are my chances?? (Shoutout to SFChef for giving me lots of good pointers already.)
Otherwise, I guess I'll find out by applying :-)
Thanks :heartbeat
Anyone heard anything yet? I wish I understood what they were doing differently this year. Last year, it appeared they pulled from the waitlist only until May 1st. Also, once they started, it went fast. I don't know how many off the waitlist ultimately got in, but I know that the first 27 did. Any thoughts?
Hey all,
Just wanted to share my joy with the bloggers who have been so supportive over the past 2 months. I got an email today from the admissions committee at DUSON saying that they are offering me guaranteed admission to the Spring 2010 ABSN program. My choices are to wait and see if I'm pulled off the waitlist or accpet the 2010 slot, which means being pulled off the fall waitlist. With my upcoming wedding this June, the Spring really does work out best for me and it gives us time to save money, find a place, and my future husband has time to find a good job. So happily, I accepted:)
I am as happy as a little summer clam at the news and I just wanted to send some encouragement to everyone else out there still waiting. Let me know as the news starts to roll in. I look forward to meeting everyone and if anyone else is joining the Spring cohort, please contact me!

Thanks, earthygirl! I am also going to apply to UNC, as I have some pre-reqs. that I am currently enrolled in and they do not accept people who are working on classes. However, because of the nature of the faculy and staff at DUSON, I am also keeping my fingers crossed to get in there this summer. I will go ahead and start sending out positive thoughts for the both of us for the Spring cohort!
It actually may be a blessing in disguise for me to start in the Spring because I am getting married in June, which is a lot to plan, working 2 jobs, and taking 18 hrs. of classes. Trying to take care of finances for school added a lot more to do, so this gives me a chance to take a deep breath.
I would like to call Melissa on Monday to talk to her more about keeping my application open and get some of the reasons as to why I was not accepted for this Fall. My fiance and I would love to move to Durham after our wedding, but I am afraid to do so without some sort of word from Duke that there is a great chance I will be accepted this time. We have a lot of family in the area and it would be awesome to settle into a house/apt. and start working! Did you call the chair or did you get a call from them after your decision?
