Hey I hope you both get in!!! Definitely keep on top of those mailings, in my experience Quincy is a good school but they need to get their act together in the administrative department.

I'm in the part time program at the Plymouth campus, we just started a couple weeks ago. So far so good. Clinicals start in two weeks...

Thanks MarkE86... But the big question is how has the first couple of weeks been. Do they have you studying and testing right off the bat? Any hints or advice would be appreciated!!!!

Absolutely, Jack!

We do have our first exam next week, which seems awfully soon but we have covered quite a bit of material in the last few weeks. Sue Peterson, our lecture instructor, really knows her stuff and has a lot of experience (she is a pediatric CNS I believe). I think the test will be tough but not impossible.

The way the material is set up is a bit confusing - there's no real syllabus, just a list of concepts that will be covered week by week. Thankfully the Fundamentals book we are using is very straightforward, so if you just focus on knowing the how and why behind each skill and concept you'll be OK. Lab is actually a lot of fun - we don't go over the skills and procedures minutely, but instead we get good demonstrations and elaboration on the techniques from the lab instructor, as well as a chance to practice them ourselves.

I guess the best advice I can give is to keep up with the reading, focus on what's covered in class, know the whys of each skill just as well as the hows, and ask for help from the teacher if you need it.

Fabulous. I actually emailed (the one who signed our application acceptance letter) and she said all had to be mailed out at the same time and she said that would be Friday...so we shall see! I hope they go out Thursday PM. Hopefully we will know by Saturday! I have a Micro Exam Saturday AM so I am hoping to come home to it!

Mark or Jack...do you guys know what the full time schedule is like. They say 7:30-3, 5 days a week, but it seems to be only two days (Tue Thursday) where the schedule is really that long.. any ideas?

Hello there!

I am currently in the second semester at Quincy College's full program in Quincy. I have to say it is actually a very good program and I have learned so much so far. The tests are difficult but as long as your keep up with the reading and understand the concepts, you will be fine. The instructors give a powerpoint presentations but you really need to read the material a few times to understand it. The clinical instructors are great too. They understand that you are learning and that you don't know everything.

We just found out that they are starting to admit students based on the Allied Health Test scores. I guess they are admitting the students with the best scores because the scores are a good predictor of who will pass the licensure exam. Also, I believe Sociology is no longer a required class so I would check that out.

Good luck and hope you hear soon!

Can you tell what your current schedule is like? I am trying to figure out hours. Thanks! Off to check out the Sociology req!

OK. I just called.. the Sociology is no longer required (the course catalog I have has it as a req.)

I decided (since i am already one quiz deep) to just finish it out to make my GPA stronger and to keep my Financial Aid;)

Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you MarkE86 and QNurStudent for the information. I'll give a shout out when I get the "letter" Thanks again!!!!!

Hey,

My schedule isn't too bad. First semester we had a 2 hour class Monday and Wednesday. We had only one day of clinical on Tuesday or Thursdays. We also had a 2 hour lab every Friday. Second semester is a 2.5 hour class on Mondays and Wednesdays and clinical on Tuesday and Thursdays. There is also an evening clinical and the maternity clinicals vary as well. There are only two full days of lab in the second semester. Clinicals usually start at 6:30 am so getting up early is tough. Try to get all the other classes out of the way before you begin. Nursing school can be fun! You meet such great people on top of it!

Hi,

Two quick questions... Are all the nursing classes held in New Temple (lectures) and Saville (labs) are there any classes in Newport? and what's the uniform like? are we given uniforms or do we buy our own scrubs?? Thanks

The nursing classes and labs are in New Temple. Parking is pain because there isn't a school parking lot. We have regular green scrubs and we have to wear white shoes and socks. You can also order a white lab coat and any other supplies needed. They are pretty strict about the uniform. No shirt showing underneath and neat hair and fingernails, etc. When you have have orientation, you order and buy them there.
