  1. Like I said earlier, I'm left traditional nursing for MR. I love it! I can be out daily by 330, no nights, weekends, holidays. I make a decent amount more per hour than I did in traditional! I live in a Boston suburb. I have friends/co-workers who left Boston hospitals to come here (and they are young). I have always loved reading charts and putting pieces together. I also have friends who are doing this while they complete their BSN/msn
  2. I started in Assisted Living. I too am a new RN, I graduated in May 2011. An Assisted Living Wellness Nurse is a jack of many trades. You see it all (psych, cardiac, pulmonary, endocrine, dietary), really a huge mixed bag of human beings! You write notes, review charts, contact families and physicians.. you create service plans based on individual needs. When i was hired, the manager sated that typically they do not hire new grads but I had life experience (read a little older, 30's). It was a good stepping stone for me. I knew right away I was not cut out for floor nursing. I always wanted to be on the administrative side of health care. I am not like many others. I did not apply everywhere. I was very picky with where I applied because I left my prior career with the mindset that I wanted to do what I loved. I no longer wanted to work for a paycheck. i wanted to be interested and invested in my career, you spend a LOT of time there! Best of luck on your search!
  3. mikey....that is basically my story. i knew after my first clinical i had to get out of dodge! i love healthcare, but not bedside. i have 7 months under my belt and off to medical review nursing for insurance company. Pm me and i will tell you more!
  4. I am curious: a) what was your first job and how long after graduating did you land it? b) how long did you stay at the first job? c) why did you leave and what did you do before going to the next?
  5. That is GREAT! I have heard people say they really feel like they are making a difference and they enjoy the extra time and the permanency to get to know the residents. Thanks for your reply.
  6. There is a thread somewhere on here about "why am I not getting hired" or something like that. It was AWESOME and had links to many samples. I used it recently (graduated in May) and got the first job I interviewed for!
  7. How are you liking the job now with more time under your belt?
  8. awesome advice! I had heard by some to wait a month after the review ended!?!? I want to keep my mojo going and I am all about putting in long hard study days! What books did you guys find most helpful for questions? I actually own quite a few because that is how I studied for my nursing school exams. The newest i Have is the Lipincott Q&A. I also have been going over and over tons of bullet factoid and mnemonics that I nabbed form scribd. What do you all recco? Regarding sleep... I plan to get a hotel room the weekend before my test and just stud and relax ( I have two small children at home so it is not always conducive to study;)
  9. Thanks! I actually heard they were filling up, but I guess you can troll around and usually get a really quick cancellation date! My friend scheduled for like 2-3 weeks out, but tried again the next day and got the following day! Appreciate your reply!
  10. Hi, I just graduated and overnighted my application to BON (MA who runs it through PCS in Nashville) and it was received last Thursday. When I log into Perason the only option that I have is "Registration" which I have done, and Pearson acknowledges that. Will my button to schedule not appear until my ATT is issued? Also, How long after your review course (i am doing Anderson in MA) did you sit for the exam? I have been doing bullets and questions and will be finishing my course a week form this Thursday and planned to sit that following Monday. Thanks!
  11. The courses are really not the hard part in my opinion. It is the skills! I go to skills labs over the weekends to get extra practice! I am in clinical twice a week, but I like the extra time (time that you don't always get with patients) to ask questions and work out scenarios. It is easy to study a book, bu the application takes the time, in my opinion.. and it deserves the time!
  12. Hi, I am a nursing student and really do not think I like the hospital setting, but I have only been in Med/Surg so I am sure there are better areas. But, I am curious what other careers are available to an RN (ADN but certainly moving on to BSN). I also have a BS in Exercise Science and would love to work in something Fitness related, but I that is just a dream world. I am just looking to hear from all you in the know as to what my options would be career wise outside of the hospital or at least outside of floor work. Thanks
  13. Hi question about your QC rotation days.. I am starting the program in the fall... are they Tuesday AND Thursday or one or the other? Thanks!

I think I will get the titer and just wait for the results. I can spare two days (just barely) maybe I will get the titer done first and then just have them give me the first Hep B in case the tire shows negative for Hb antibodies

Non reactive dues not show immunity or not. Non-reactive means you currently are not infected. I just spoke to the doctors office. Reactive means you currently are infected
