Anyone applied to MUSC New Grad Nurse Residency?

U.S.A. South Carolina

Hi!

Just wondering if anyone has applied to the NEW GRAD NURSE RESIDENCY PROGRAM at MUSC??? If so, have you heard anything....or know how long it takes to hear a response? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!

how much do they start for new grads. Also, do they pay for your tuition if you decided to complete BSN or masters?:(

I recently applied to the New Grad program and am currently waiting for a response. It's been over two weeks and my application status says that my application has been referred to the hiring manager, so I am unsure how long it takes in order to hear something back!

I applied to their new grad positions for pediatric nursing, and they are not even on the website anymore! My application says referred to a hiring manager, but so far no word from anyone. It has been almost two weeks for me as well.

I have my clinicals at MUSC. At orientation the other day, they said there was a hiring freeze at this time. They had so many travelers throughout the hospital that it caused a financial problem of some sort. So if you're not hearing back, thats probably the reason. Also another classmate of mine stated that she interviewed at Roper and she was called back and told they arent hiring at this point either. Not sure whats going on. Which is why im glad im moving and have my job already.

I currently work at MUSC as a tech, and from my knowledge their is supposed to be a hiring freeze, but after waiting 2 weeks for an interview for an RN position, I called the NM and asked if she had time to review my application, and we set an interview for the next day. You have to be persistent and make phone calls, because right now i believe everyone there is busy and just dont have the time to go through the many applications they recevie in quickest fashion! I also think the time for new grad hiring is around graduation times, (December, May) so for the most part right now many facilities have done most of their new grad hiring and will start rehiring new grads come December in order for new grad internships.

THANK YOU FOR THE INSIGHT! - I just sent you an email - hope you don't mind!

There is a hiring freeze but it is not due to travelers. They just lost their jobs as part of the budget cuts. Please don't post rumors on these forums. There are numerous reasons for the cut backs, but one of them is in the last year MUSC has lost 10% of their state funding which amount to around $10 million. Be careful who you vote for next week!

My understanding of their hiring process for Dec. grads is you apply by Oct. 1st and then the decisions are made sometime before you graduate. They do not do another round of hiring in Dec., they go off the applications from Oct. This is from the woman who coordinates the program, so it is reliable. I would think calling the nurse manager to get more information is your best bet to get more information.

I apologize for stating what was told to me in orientation. But anyway, I spoke to the Nurse Manager on the floor I'm doing clinicals at the ART, and she stated that its just a bad rumor. She stated that on her floor alone she is short 6 FT RN's. And would welcome new grad for interviews. She also stated that the travelers weren't losing their jobs, that they weren't renewing contracts, but would convert their positions into FT staff position if they desired.

And that's what I got straight from the NM's mouth. She said she would recommend calling HR to follow up or contact the unit after failed attempts with HR.

Interesting.... Because I placed a call to a NM last week and never heard anything...Maybe its too early yet, but I wouldn't think so as it is already November?

Here are a couple of links that address the current situation at MUSC:

Hope this may answer some of your questions. From what I've experienced as a tech, the hiring process was pretty slow. I had to contact the NM personally after a month to get the status on my application. Let me know if I can help you!
