I am currently finishing up my Preceptorship. My last day with my preceptor is May 28th and I graduate on June 23rd. My plan is to begin full on studying for NCLEX on May 30th.
Our school requires the entire class to do the week long Hurst review from June 18th-June 21st. And I already signed up for Kaplan On-Demand which I gain access to on May 25th. My plan is to take the NCLEX sometime in July, maybe the second week in July if possible. I just hope that I'll be giving myself enough time to study and be successful when I test.
Anyone else planning to test in July? Maybe we can help each other out here and support each other.
I paid for the Kaplan online review. And our school includes the Hurst review in our tuition; we do the Hurst review this coming Monday-Wednesday. I also have tons of study resources but I think I'm going to just stick with Saunders for review, Kaplan for questions, and the LaCharity book for the prioritization and delegation stuff.
Our school made us do the Hurst review last fall too before classes started. It was supposed to review the things we went over in first year and introduce us to the stud we would be learning senior year. So I may use my Hurst resources to do questions too and use the book for content. Not sure yet though because I really do like Saunders.
Tonight I'm going to sit and write down all the lab values that I don't know and look at some of the women's health content in Saunders since that's my weakest area according to my Kaplan diagnostic test.
I'm all over place ...so many questions. Did you do the HESI course online? I'm just doing CDs and books.
I didn't do a HESI course. Our school uses the HESI tests at the end of every semester to monitor our knowledge. And they use the exit HESI as an indicator of whether we will do well on the NCLEX.
My school does ATI for nursing exams. We had VATI with instructer to help us once we finished school. I didn't like VATI. My thoughts. My instructer gave me the same assessments over and over again and I didn't read saundars or exam cram at all. I did VATI PowerPoints and their assessments only, the first time I took NCLEX and failed. So now, I'm reviewing the books now so Idk. I'm new to this website and hoped I saw all these reviews prior to first NCLEX ..... So trying a new way to study the content and no longer doing VATI.
Hello guys!
I test on the 16th of July too!!! As for VATI, it sucks a LOT! I dislike it! That's what my school paid for as well, and I don't see it helping me in any way at all! It's like cramming, which is NOT what NCLEX is all about. So right now, I using the NCBSN learningext review course, and I must say their questions are HARD...I always get low 60's in those, and just last night I scored my FIRST 80% (I was so happy for this improvement). I also have Saunders which I'm kinda using, Kaplan strategy book (for questions and tips), Lippincott Alternate format book, and La Charity (I just ordered this..hopefully it helps with the delegation cos I suck at those!).
But hey! We can all support and encourage each other...My BIGGEST issue is PHARM. OB is also a problem but I can guess my way outta it, but Pharm that's quite impossible to do

If Im not mistaken low 60s is okay for NCSBN. I think their scoring system is somewhat like Kaplan, anything 60 and above is considered good just because the questions are so difficult. So try not to beat yourself up over it.
Im actually not even going to study pharm. I did really good on my pharm HESI and I literally only knew about 4 of the drugs that they tested us on. I just think I would be wasting a lot of time to study it because there are so many drugs that it seems impossible to retain any of it. But my HESI and Kaplan diagnostic scores for pharm were really high and I dont understand why because the drugs are foreign to me. I guess its just a matter of trying to find something to apply it to. Its worked for me so far.
Oh and the LaCharity questions seem HARD.

Hey guys! I take NCLEX on July 6th..completed the Hurst Review this week, I also have the 2012-2013 Kaplan Book w/cd for questions and I am also using the Saunders book/cd. I was nervous about the test at first but after I completed Hurst I noticed that I have improved A TON on getting questions correct, so I am hoping this is what gets me through NCLEX on the first try!
