I have been looking at the nursing employment of HSS online. I saw positions being posted for unit of 5 east, 6 esat, 7east, 8 east, 9 east, 10 east, and 11 east. I really want to know what unit is exactly of each one before I apply, instead of randomly selecting one. I am also curious how is the salary in HSS. Is it a union hospital? Are nurses being supportive over there? Any input will be appreciated.

Im not too sure about the hospital and the working environment there but I do know nurses start 100k salary. My friend went to an interview there few mths back but didnt accept the job as it would have been a 1.5 hr drive to work.
Thank you so much for the reply. Can you eleborate the clinical background of those nurses who start 100k? Such as specialty and experience. Thanks a lot.

Don't know anything about the work environment. But the hospital has a tremendous reputation. I'm an or nurse on long Island and HSS is where people generally go when they need major surgery
I still want to know more about it.

I work at HSS now. 5east is where I am, which is their stepdown and critical care unit. 11 east is med-surg and it's where all the VIPs stay (I mean mostly athletes and such). All the other floors are med-surg.
It's not union. Not easy to get to either. It's a good 15 min walk from the subway but buses are close by. If you want day shift be ready to wait for about a year. The pay is very good. New grads start at $87K a year and each year you have been an RN they add to that. I make over $100K. They also have a great tuition reimbursement program. $12K a year for grad studies.
Now, the patients are not medically difficult but they demand service. And I do mean demand it. It's the hospital for the rich and famous. It's still paper charting which is annoying. You work mostly with NPs or anesthesia. If you need more info just let me know.

Hi us2uk4u,
I am very interested in the perioperative nurse residency program at HSS. I want to apply to the program but have a few questions. I am wondering if you have the email for the nurse recruiter at HSS? Thank you!

Hi ! Thank you so much for this insight. I am extremely interested in HSS and was wondering if their residency program leads to a job? I know it is 1-year but I was not positive if that meant that you are hired for the specific area and after 1 year are automatically transitioned as a independent RN vs. having to apply for a position

Hi Us2uk4u,
Is there a high turnover rate for the med surg floors since the patients are demanding? Do you feel very supported by the management and adequately staffed? I have an interview coming up for the spine and trauma unit which i am very excited about and it would also be my first experience with a Magnet Hospital!
