Anybody else ever experience this? Advice?

I am a new grad with no experience. I was interested in relocating. I went to the town where I would be relocating, about 4 hours away from where I currently live. I had an interview for a LTC and was hired on the spot on 6/20. I needed time to find a rental and planned for around July 8th. I was having trouble with homes being rented before my appointment to go down and view them so I asked to extend to July 15th. I was told that they would be able to verify my income for rental purposes as long as there was a signed consent for them to release the info, but they do not do written offer letters.

I started the process for qualifying for a rental on 6/30. They were unable to approve me because the HR person who does income verification was on vacation. I tried to see if anybody else could just verbally verify my employment and they said no that only goes through HR and corporate. I lost one possible home because they rented it to someone else while waiting for income verification to me. The other home has been waiting for the verification. Finally today 7/6 the HR person is back from vacation. I call first thing in the morning and tell her I need this done ASAP or I'm not going to get a rental. Meanwhile my current home has sold and is set to close on 7/22. She assures me the verification will be done today and she will call me as soon as it's completed. I hear nothing from her. I call back at 4 and she's out of the office. I'm probably going to lose this rental too and now I'm going to be homeless. We've both put in our notice at our current jobs here (myself and my husband). I'm already done and his last day is this coming Friday. I'm starting to freak out.

Has anything like this happened to anybody else? This is absolutely crazy to me.

No, I have not personally had this experience, but I understand how you must feel.

If you have to, get a motel for a while. Don't keep putting off your start date and don't pressure HR or you might lose the job offer.

Best wishes.

Thank you. I am so frustrated. How do they expect me to move there if they can't verify income in a timely fashion to any of the rental homes I line up? Seems absurd.

I have never dealt with this type of situation. I've never had any renter verify income before renting.. just the security and first month up front.

But I have butterflies in my stomach (not the good kind) as I read your worry in your words. I hope things work out for you.

I've lived in many places that require at least 3 pay stubs, and require that you make 2.5x the rental amount. So if renting an apartment for $700, they would ask that your monthly income be at or above $1750.

Pretty much every rental I've ever had has required some proof of income. I ended up sneaking my way into a rental. I just turned in my husband's current pay stubs for his job in a totally different location and they didn't look into it enough to verify the location or question it. So we've got a lease signed and somewhere to move. I have a job interview for a different job Monday that I am hoping to be offered on the spot because I will likely accept it. This whole verification of income thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. And maybe in theirs too. I'm frustrated because that was literally like my first email correspondence with HR and I just asked if they could provide me a statement that I was hired and what my hourly pay was. She said to have the rental agency contact her directly with a signed consent from me. Then she never responded or said anything was different. Then after I pushed the other day I received an email from corporate that said basically, we can't verify your income since you haven't started yet and there is nothing to verify, but here's the next best thing. And there was a letter attached which was what I originally requested, a statement that I was hired, what my start date was, and my pay rate. I feel like there are some loose ends on their end and it makes me look stupid when it wasn't really my mistake. Frustrating.
