HELP!!! I am due to start on STX 5/16. where exactly is the hospital? What housing is close to it and how are the working conditions in relation to STT (just left RLS...quite an experience). Is the hospital on STX traveler friendly?

I am a traveler interested in doing a contract in the Virgin Islands. Wondering how the pay is? Also wondering what type of housing is provided and if it is easy to get housing on your own temporarily. Is it easy to buy a car or moped cheap? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Pay depends on what agency you go with, Trustaff mainly staffs ST Thomas while Worldwide Mainly staff St Croix. From what I heard from my friends on STT(st thomas) was that pay was in mid $30's. I went there as staff and my wage was $23/hr. (For 5 years exp w/ ADN). I am now going back but as a traveler to STX(st croix) with worldwide and my wage is decent and the housing is way lower on STX than STT, plus now is the time to go because it is not tourist season so you can find your home housing pretty cheap. I would suggest finding housing on a safari route and then rent a car on the weekends or on your day off. I have heard many of my friends say that they had to dip into their saving to make it through their contract. Also I suggest if you do secure a contract on either island that you fly down and secure a private mailbox, go to the grocery store and Kmart and see the prices for what you use regularly and then go home, go to wal mart and have those items shipped to your box on island(throw in a few books to get the book rate at post office). FlLinda..I have friends who live FT on St. John but they own a bar and are not in healthcare. I talked with Trustaff rep regarding contract, but have heard more bad than good about Trustaff, so I'm still investigating. Clinical One said they can get contract on STT and I like the recruiter that I've been dealing with at Clinical One. Also considering doing a PMV to see friends and then possibly trying to get perm staff position. STX is nice but might be a bit to remote for me? Not as much going on there as in STT/STJ.

Love to hear more specifics on contracts that RN network has in STX.
