Any swboces LPN students for 2016

Published

hey I was hoping to get conversation going about the upcoming swboces 2016 LPN program for people that are eitheir applying, been accepted, even past students.... I feel this will keep us all together on program information. I have seen it done for previous years but I can't seem to link with anyone about the 2016 program...I was accepted into the program for this year, looking forward to starting.

I've volunteered work at a hospital before, and I've also worked at a pharmacy as a pharmacy technician. Other than that, I have none. So that makes me kind of nervous

Oh you'll be fine... We're gonna be taught everything we need to know...have you began to do any studying any medical terminology or nursing math like they suggested?

I got a book on nursing terminology, and I've been studying that. I also got this flash card pack on A&P but I haven't really looked at it much.

Do do you live close to the school? And will you be working while you're in school?

That sounds like a great start... I don't live close but within a decent traveling distance...I will be doing only 2 shifts per month throughout the program... How about you?

I don't plan to work, and I live a 20 minute drive away. Did you hear anything about clinicals?

Oh ok... No I haven't heard anything about clinicals other than older posts of past students saying clinicals started around October

I heard it's just CNA work and then it gradually gets more difficult. I also heard that it's twice a week from 8 to 230

Yea, the beginning of most clincals RN/LPN is lots of basic nursing like bed changing, bed baths, mouth care etc.

im also interested in knowing if we are gonna get like a book packet that contains all the books or will we have to go out and buy them elsewhere

I think we have to bring a check and they give us all the books, that's what I heard. Do you work in a facility that hires LPNs?

Wow!! All the books for the entire course?

I work in a hospital and I recently checked their online job openings and I seen 2 openings...they are more big on RN's it seems but other local hospitals have openings for LPN and of course almost all the nursing homes

That's what I heard. I think the books are pretty expensive, though. I really don't want to work at a nursing home, so I hope more jobs open up as we are finishing. What hospital do you work at?

I actually wouldn't mind starting in a nursing home even if it's for like 6 months because I feel like that's where I will use my skills most as far as the direct patient care skills like wound care, trach care, g tubes, etc... Only thing is I read a lot about lpns in that setting not getting much use of their blood drawing or iv skills, which I would definitely want to do regularly to not lose the skill and to only get better at especially as a new grad..
