Any Stonybrook University MSN students?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Hello,

I am in the process of applying to the FNP program and was just curious if there were anyone here that is going to this program. I am wondering how it will be, I did my BSN online through the University of Pheonix and this will be different as it is more of a semester format vs. the 5 or 6 week class type format they had.

I will probably be doing a part time program as with 3 kids and my youngest being 1yr old this week and working part time, I am hoping this will be something I can get done.

I live in the Pocono's of PA and chose here as when I spoke to the university even though they are distance they have clinical affiliations here nearby so I am hoping it won't be too bad at finding preceptors. I was contemplating going to a ground school but then I found out from a FNP friend that all the universities in my area expect the student to find and arrange their own clinical, so I would have this no matter which way I decided but I really like the idea of sitting in my PJ going to class.

Thanks,

Melissa

Its funny you ask me this today...2 weeks into the semester and Ive yet to find a clinical site. So I am one of those ppl in danger of not graduating. There are plenty of sites to go to in LI area but I live in the Bronx and can't drive

how are the online classes going? I will be attending the ANP classes next year.

Kimaboogie,

That's a terrible situation---have you tried networking with NP's in the NY State NP Society? They have NYC chapters. Their website is: www.thenpa.org I just joined myself. Also, have you tried contacting the Education Dept of NYC hospitals?? I'm hoping you find something soon--let us know how you progress. I am considering attending SUNY SB on-line, but I also live in NYCity----are you in the Family NP program (for which they have closed new admissions)? Your experience is making me think I should attend an "on campus" program with its own clinicals here in the 5 boroughs of NYCity..... Thanks for any advice you have and good luck. :heartbeat

hello, I'm thinking on attending the Adult NP program at Stony Brook, since they closed down the FNP

have you heard about the online program? how is the online program like? is it hard?

i also live in the nyc area
