Any schools similar to excelsior

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I am a working professional who have been trying to enter a nursing program that fits into my schedule. I've searched the net and it seems like excelsior is the only online/distance learning school where you can enter if you are an LPN, Respiratory Therapist or Parametic and right now I'm not one of either. Since I work full time and can't afford to quit my job. I was looking into a distance learning Respiratory Therapist program with Independence University (CCHS). That way once I complete that program I can enter Excelsior RN program. I'm so sad they don't allow medical assistants to enter the program. But here the drawback, the Respiratory program cost $20,000, requires 700 clinical hours, and you are responsible for finding your own clinical site (preceptor). Does anyone know of any other school similar to Excelsior. I've looked everywhere. I'm starting to think of just getting a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration since I already have a Bachelor degree and can't seem to find any other nursing :( :o program.

Also, has anyone went through the Respiratory Therapist program with IU?

Help!

Have you checked your local 4 year school for a second bachelor's degree program? You would have to attend classes and clinical, but they are often set up for people who work. Also, they may have all the class stuff on line and you would only have to go for clinical time. Just a thought.

Chamberlain (formerly known as Deaconess) is another program that is discussed here. I have to confess that, especially for a moderator of the Distance Learning Forum, I am ridiculously uninformed about their admission requirements and other procedures. Might be a place to start looking though.

Geo124,

I was googling and came across your blog here on the nurses site.

I am too looking into the respiratory therapist program at Indepence University. I actually had a meeting today with The College Network to discuss their associates in applied science degree.

Well it turns out that The college Network is in partnership with Independence university. So you take your associated at the college network and then tranfer that over to independence university..

The associates degree cost approx. $2,225 at the college network.

The cost of the entire degree program if you were to take your associates with college network is approx. $18,543. Which is a lot better than $27,000 that I was quoted at independence university.

At The college network there are a total of 6 classes (18credits) to take and transfer to independence University and a total of 57credits at IU.

The only catch is if you take the associates at the college network you can only transfer the credits to the colleges they are affliated with, you can't transfer to just any college.

I hope I helped with answering some of your questions and didn't confuse you even more.

I would like to know more about the respiratory program at IU. If you have any info that you think might help me out throw it my way.

Thanks, Pam

Hello, please look at the small print below before signing up with College Network! They are not a college and they do not give you Associate degree at all. They are a very expensive publishing company, and use Excelsior College for Associate Degree award. Go to http://www.excelsior.edu directly you will see the warnings posted for perspective students to stay away from these false cause "schools". Plus you will only pay about the third of the cost of College Network or RUE publishers. Investigate! Good luck.
