Tamirah,

Here's a rapid response for you. I'll be doing the rest of my nursing classes at UMDNJ, but took several classes over at Rutgers. You'll get to face off with Anthony Uzwiak for Anatomy and Physiology. I have a BA and have been in college for some time. The A+P class you are about to take is more difficult than the bulk of classes at Rutgers. He is an excellent instructor and gives you a great bang for you buck, but expect to work hard. While the rest of the incoming freshman will be busy seeing how much alchohol they can consume without dying, you will need to be studying. It's well worth it though. From what I understand the second A+P class was at least 30% lighter than the first. Don't be too intimidated, just don't underestimate the amount of time you will have to devote to this one class. See about taking Sociology with Lee Clarke if you can in the spring. I found him easy and understand some other instructors require writing for recitation. You'll have enough on your plate. This semester take something easy and enjoyable like Theatre Appreciation or into to Labor Studies. You'll need to balance off the workload to concentrate on his class.

Tahirah,

I hope you come to love Rutgers! I spent 1 1/2 years there as a full-time student about 20 years ago, followed by 8 years as a part-time night student. It can be a little overwhelming at first because it's a huge university and everything is spread out. When you get there, try and visit the library, bookstores and walk the campus a bit to familiarize yourself with the layout. Buses are frequent from campus to campus, but if you have classes on different campuses, take the bus and time the trip so you know what to expect. Add additional 10-20 minutes in case it rains/snows.

When you get to class, get a feel for your fellow students and exchange contact info so that if you run late or miss for any reason, someone is looking out for you.

Rutgers will offer a good education for a good price. Some of the basic classes like Chem 101 and 102 will take place in huge auditoriums with 200+ students. This can be overwhelming too, especially if your high school/previous college was small. Try and sit up front in class and tape the lecture. Don't hesitate to ask questions when you are in your smaller class groups.

Good luck. I hope it all works out well for you.
