Hello Terri,
I will try to help as much as i can....i started out in phlebotomy back in 1998 and i do IV therapy now as a nurse. What is your question?

I took a 4 week Phlebotomy course last year. Took and passed the state exam. Got Licensed. Did a couple health fairs to get more practice after the externship. However when it came time to getting a job, most companies wanted 1 year minimum experience and the few that didn't were about 75 miles from my house. I am still glad though that I took the course.

Our community college just started a phlebotomy course as part of the government jobsnow stimulus. I'm not sure why, though, since there are NO phlebotomy jobs in the entire area. The hospitals here just take employees from their lab and train them in-house.

I am currently in a Phlebotomy program for the summer. My intention is to get certified before I start Nursing clinicals in the Spring '11. I have about 4 more weeks of lecture, then will take a clinical class in the Fall which consists of working 3, 40hour weeks in a hospital.
I do really like it and am a little anxious about securing a job, as someone else has mentioned. Ideally, I would like to find weekend hours. (since I will be in NS fulltime through the week) From what I hear, it is hard to find someone willing to work in the morning on the weekends, so I hope I am at an advantage.
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer!
