I was just wondering if there were any PA Deaconess grads out there and if they had trouble sitting for the boards in PA because of attending an online program? I've been searching the state BON website, but can't find anything to see if the Deaconess program is allowed here or not.
Thanks!

You can get the BON phone number from the website. I would call them to be sure. I know certain states do not endorse the DCN online program and will not let DCN online sit for boards.
There are lots of people here looking into or attending DCN...so could you share some specifics on what State Boards you know of that are not allowing DCN grads to sit the boards...

Hi there,
Sorry it took we a while to respond I don't frequent the boards as much right now.
I will finish DCN this year. If you would like, pm me and I can share my experience with you. DCN is not a problem in PA.

Opal,
Did you sit for the Nclex-PN after you finished the first year of the program? That's what I plan to do before I go on to complete the second half of the program. I was just concerned that I wouldn't be eligible to sit for either of the Nclex's because of the nature of the program at Deaconess. I've tried contacting the PA BON, but they don't ever seem to get back to me.
What did you think of the program's structure? Do you feel you have learned just as much as you would have in a traditional program?

I decided to go straight through for the RN. In PA you can apply for a temporary practice permit once you finish the PN program and it is good for one year. Since I knew I would finish the RN portion during that time, I didn't feel a need to sit for the PN boards as the TPP allows PA grads to work.
I have talked with the SBON on several occasions and they have told me I will need to take the MO state boards and then apply for reciprocity in PA. This is typical of most states and out of state schools.
Hope this helps
