Hello all,
I have been looking trough these posts for a few weeks now and have dcided to post to see if any one could offer me any info/advice. I have just completed the second year of my health studies degree and I have decided that I really want to become a nurse. There are a few institutions throughout the UK that offer 2 or 2.4 year accelerated pre registration nursing courses at either postgraduate or Msc level.
Have any of you kind people been on one of these ourses or know any one who has? I'd really love to get a perspective on these courses about quality of this type of course and wether or not two years, even if th clinicals are condensed etc, are good enough preparation to become a nurse. I will be 28 by the time I can start any nursing course and although a traditional 3yr course isn't much longer, i'm really sick of being a poor student and if I can do a year less, that would be ideal for me. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi there and welcome to allnurses, I am not sure about the 2 year course I haven't had much to do with it and the universities where I am only run the 3 year course.
It may be worth taking a look at the syllabus to compare it to the 3 year course. I have googled it and the courses that I found were based at some very good Universities such as Southhamptom, which has an excellent reputation.
having a quick look at the information on the websites it looks like they have reduced the initial part of the training where all branches experience other specialities to 5 months, which providing you are not planning on travelling abroad shouldn't pose you too many problems.
Any course would have to meet the requirements of the NMC for registration so your practice requirements will be there as the NMc ae very specifice about the amount of practice hours you have to put in. Being post grad you have already demonstrated your acaedemic ability so there will be less time teaching you to write at degree level and more time teaching the bear bones of nursing.
Good Luck, let us know what you decide
