Any nurses work at LBJ Hospital in Houston?

U.S.A. Texas

Hello Everyone!

I will be graduating from nursing school in December, and I might have a possible job offer for the HCHD Graduate Nurse Residency program at LBJ hospital on a Med/Surg unit.

Can anyone please share some insight on what it is like to work there? Overall working environment? Nurse/patient ratio, etc.? I have not been able to find much info on the hospital and would love to here from others who work there.

Thanks! :)

I dont work for Harris County Hospital District now but that was my first nursing job 15 years ago. I will tell you this: YOU WILL RECEIVE ALL THE EXPERIENCE YOU WILL NEED AT LBJ!!! Because it's a county hospital, you see different types of patients and you obtain tons of experience. Once I left there, I was able to get a job anywhere because other hospitals knew if I worked there, I knew my stuff. It will look good on your future resume.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks so much for the response yvfair. I can just about imagine how much experience can be gained from working at a county hospital like LBJ. Did you work on a Med/Surg unit?

Has anyone else worked at LBJ, or even Ben Taub?

I am about to complete my second interviews for both hospitals thru HCHD. If I have an option to choose, I'm wondering which would be the best choice between the 2. Any insight from someone who works at either would be great!

Bumping for more responses!

I would be so very grateful to receive info from anyone who has or does work at either of these hospitals. Thanks!! :)

Hmm,

Well I guess I should respond!

1.) Lets see the work environment?

a) It's pretty culturally diverse at Ben Taub and LBJ as far as RNs go.

b) They are both teaching hospitals so unless its just a ignorant resident most of them listen to what you suggest because they rotate teams every month so they are usually new to the experience.

c) They don't look anywhere as nice as Methodist/Memorial/St Lukes but I guess it is the county haha

d) Med/Surg = 5-6 pts, Tele 4-5 pts:1, ICU 1-2 pts

e) The thing is with the county most people can't afford care so don't come in until its really bad, thus you will see and get a lot of experience here... (I could be wrong haha
