Any Northwestern College of Nursing Students??? Just got accepted!!

Published

I am just looking for any Northwestern College of Nursing in Bridgeview IL students, or newly accepted students!!! Any advice? or comments would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

1. any college that is not accredited or new should be viewed with hesitancy.

2. the students of the first graduating class MUST pass their NCLEX to GET accredited with a certain percentage of passing with in a certain parameter.

3. Ask the Dean of the school HOW and WHAT criteria need to be met to get teh school acredited otherwise if you graduate from an UN accredited nursing school you will not be bale to further your education as the credits wont be admonished ny other schools and the likely hood of getting a job will be low due to the fact that MOST hospitals REQUIRE a decree from an accredited porgram.

4. It was our understanding that as students we were attending an accredited program but it is not accredited - it is accredited for the students to SIT for the NCLEX.

Northwestern is accreditated by Illinois. Graduates ARE able to sit for state boards. The school has had a visit from NLN because they are seeking NLNAC accreditation. Once the first class takes boards the status of accreditation by NLN will be known.

What percentage of the graduating class has to pass the NCLEX and within what time frame?

Um..we already know all of this.. so, for me anyway, there isn't anything to ask the Dean of the School..and the school is accredited by the state of IL.. so the students can sit for the NCLEX. Also, the school is not new..it's actually been around for 100 years I think.. it's the program that's new.. But thanks for the concern.. but honestly, I'm not concerned!

I would call the school to find out the answer to that question if you are interested in applying.

My advice as a student at NC's Violet Schumacker School of Nursing is do your homework. Speak with several different Nursing Schools and their Deans before making a $50,000 investment in your future for a 2 year degree. I love NC, I love the faculty. The Financial Aid Department is awesome. They treat you very well and will go above and beyond to help you with academics. However, the academic load is INTENSE. YOu will have no life for 2 years, dont expect to be able to hold a real job while going to Nursing School because it wont work. Be realistic in the expectatins of this program. As a NEW school, they will be setting a precedence of quality and believe me I am very excited to be a part of it, but will be relieved when the school is ACTUALLY accredited. Good luck to you on your future endeavors.

BTW PRofessor Zack and Martin are the best instructors. They are hard but fair. Review your syllabus and make sure you meet your deadlines and do your research before submitting your care plans- they arent easy graders but you will learn so much from them. Also, read a couple chapters ahead ALWAYS so you are ahead of the game as it is easy to fall behind when you are doing 5 chapters in three days. ATI modules allow you to read ahead- do them adn do them often as even if you pass the class- if you dont pass the ATI test at the end of the semester for the class you are taking you dont move on in your nuirsing program- you have to repeat the class (and pay for it too). Alot of students underestimate the importance of making sure you are also reading yoru ATI book that corresponds to your class.

ALso, there are books at Barnes and Nobles that teach rhyming or easily remebered methods for Nursing Ill post them. Your first class will be fundamentals- you will want to memorize them so that when you actaully have to perform the methods you will remember them without stage fright because your instructor and the whole class is watching you.

GOod luck.:redpinkhe

Thanks for the info hon! I do appreciate your words of concern honestly.. I have actually applied to about 5 or 6 schools and gone to visit them, etc...but I really do like NWC's program.. there are 2 more programs that I like also..one I already have gotten into..but it's an LPN..the other is an ADN but I'm still in the application process.

I personally couldn't work and go to nursing school.. but if you do look around on thw boards... there are people who do it..but that's too much for me..lol All the rest of the info about the ATI stuff etc.. I do know.. I'm a research whore..:lol2: I research pretty much everything before I do anything half azz substantial..lol

The only thing I don't know hon.. how many days a week do you actually attend class? It's nice to hear from someone who actually goes there.. I believe you are actually the only person on this IL board who does.. where do you live?

Welcome to the board hon!

@ nurses for me, thanks for all the words of encouragment, and advise!! It's much appreciated! I also have applies to 5 schools. 2 I didn't get in, 2 I did (NC included) and one I haven't heard from. I have also completed all of my Pre-reqs or non-nursing classes (a&p 1&2, micro, English, speech, psych, sociology, Chem and more). So I will save a ton of money that way, also I will have less classes each quarter. I know it will still be hard though!! I also work full time in an ER, but will be cutting back to max of 24 a week once the program starts.

I also am curious how often your classes are?? What's your schedule look like?? Also, where have you been doing most of your cliniclas at?? Thanks again for sharing your experience thus far!!!

Does anyone know when the packets are being mailed out???

@isaly....Nope. The emailed I received said they would be in touch regarding the next steps.

So I'm assuming you got in too! Congrats!

Thanks, and congratulations to you as well. I hope they come soon.. I know the basic like what we need to get done as far as what we need like stethescope, physicals, Tb, vaccine/titers etc...but I want to know schedule and books. My research tells me that they require just the white pants and all white shoes then their NC scrub shirt. But....

Yeah thats the only info I have too. Ugh...I hate white scrub pants!!! Oh well. I want to know my schedule so bad!!! haha. If you hear anything, let me know. But the way, my name is Jessica, whats yours?? Im sure we will meet soon!
