I just accepted a job in the medical informatics dept where I work. Just wondering what kind of experience I can expect. The job is at a state university if that makes a difference.

Is there certification program for informatics out there? For LVN. Been a nurse for 15 yrs our hospital eliminated lvn I'm thinking of doing informatics with out spending so much time n money.

I'm wondering the same thing.

I don't know if there is one for LPN prepared ive only seen the ones for RN

I'm finding it really hard to get into the field. I am a LVN , I have taught LVN's in both clinical and didactic forms, I have worked in the ED in North Carolina, as an administrator in Assisted Living, as a HEDIS analyst and as a staff nurse on telemetry and joint replacement floors. I then went and learned how to program in three full stacks and finally apprenticed as a UX architect. Even with all that, I can't get my foot in the door to even talk to anyone because I don't have the RN after my name. I know I am really disgusted by all the new tech coming out that has no one with bedside experience working on it. Just wondering what I must be doing wrong for not experiencing one break yet in this. Thanks for indulging me.

I would almost kill for a UX background like yours. My suggestion. Twitter, join the conversations that are relevant to this topic, there are TONS! I just was involved with a related Tweetchat....as a result a company asked for a off line call...the call lasted over an hour, they just offered a Guest Blog opportunity! There are specific links that come to conversations mind, but I do not think we can include links in comments.

Hi, its me uxnurse, for some reason i can't access my other account so here I am in a new version. Would you mind if I pm'd you about some things?

Hello everyone,

I've been an LVN for two years in SD, but am looking to expand my career either in informatics or sonography.

Does anyone have any experience or expertise in either informatics or sonography?

Which sonography degree pays the most?

Is there a pay increase with informatics or is sonography independently more worth it?

Please share pay, pros & cons, and the program you attended/length/cost please ??

Hello Vanessa,

I'm an LPN working as an Epic Analyst since 2006.  I didn't take any class or certification program prior to being able to go thru a door, that changed my life.  Back when Allnuses first started, I became obsessed with learning how to do things online, and just taught myself as my sister and older brother received degrees in IT in the 80's.  Now my nephew is teaching himself to build software.

Along the way I became interested in doing something else besides face to face patient care, after 20 years working in every area of nursing except for research and OR.  In 2006, I found a job opening, working with a small company that supported Epic Ambulatory in partnership with a large hospital who was online with Epic.  The large hospital bought out the small company less than 3 months after I joined and offer me and others Epic Certification for FREE!  I became certified in several modules, and after two years working with some awesome folks, I went and started working for a well-known consulting firm, traveling across the country.   This changed my life, when my hourly rate placed me in the low 6 figures.  My most notable skill is my clinical workflow knowledge.  Oh, and there are many LPN out there in IT, and not just working in EMRs.  Also, if you have an associate or bachelor's degree, there are places willing to train you.  Check out LinkedIn, as they are lots of offerings for programs and certifications like the following:

It is only for military, veterans, spouses, or family members.  I tried to add a copy of a post, but the site wouldn't let me.  I tried several times but check this site out if you're a veteran or spouse or family member of a veteran.  https://www.linkedin.com/groups/50953/ or www.certifications-guide.com or try 210-399-3452.  I hope this helps someone :)! Good luck.
