In my opinion, I don't think it would be worth it as an RN. As an LVN, I took an IV certification course because you have to be IV certified to work with IVs as an LVN in California. However, since it is part of an RN's scope of practice, I understand that you are just doing it for practice. Half my IV certification class were RNs wishing to do the same thing. But I don't see the benefit. They teach nothing new than what is taught in school for an RN and we only had to do three sticks to pass. You say practice isn't helping you, but that's really all that it takes. There's nothing wrong with having a slower learning curve for one particular skill...
I did an RN refresher course in San Diego.. just do a google search for it and you should find a few different places. RN's can not get a certification in IV therapy and blood withdrawal but the refresher course was awesome. If you want me to PM you the place I went to, let me know.
Did you actually learn anything from taking the course? There's mix reviews about taking this sort of class...
Thanks!

Hi,
Has anyone taken an IV certification class or IV class just because? I do not want to be an IV nurse for my hospital or a PICC line nurse. I just want to be able to do IVs well and learn good technique, tricks or whatever. I have searched for a few in So Cal but it seems expensive. My hospital does not offer a class or special training for it. Practice isnt helping me.
