I work with more than 1 company and their rapid response sections as well. Ask for an email with all the information sent to you. Listen and learn all the questions you need to ask. Call the housing people, you are entitled to safe housing.

Just got off the phone with a friend who took an assignment in Hawaii with American Mobile. She arrived last Friday and is flying back to the mainland this coming Monday. Nothing was as promised with the agency and she is out several THOUSAND dollars and has no job.

I had been tempted to use them with a return engagement at a Hospital but discovered a non compete clause at the last minute, the insulted me by offering $8.00 an hour less than what I work for previously and less housing stipend saying " that's the best we can do". In addition to CCTC, American Mobile will be a company I will never allow to make any money off of my abilities.

I have used both of the mentioned companies. My pay was correct and deposited on time. Any concers were quickly addressed and solved to my liking. I would never drive or fly anywhere with out a signed contract to my liking!

She thought she did Zeke, waited until everything she "thought" she would need was taken care of. Then she arrived on the island. Housing wasn't "ready", company response "we will put you up in a nice Resort until the housing is ready and then you can move in" Nice Resort turned out to be the "Bates Motel" according to my friend. Company reported "oh there are places on the island where you can rent a car for like $300 so since other travelers before you did that and just pocketed the rest we only give the $300" $800 a month the best price you can get on the island and the car is required as she has to take call for the position and her housing is 29 minutes (driving time) from the hospital (if she runs red lights and goes over the speed limit) you can do that you know, if you are on call.....NOT

So your wonderful time with American Mobile must have been an assignment or so ago. This happened just last week.

I think you have a good point, Tango. I know the first assignment is the hardest to get and I will be relieved when the opportunity comes. I have all my certs and the house is being cleared out and readied for sale, but that's not always enough to gain the interest of a good recruiter, let alone a potential facility.

I have been confused about finding companies to deal with. It seems for every good experience, someone is also posting about a nightmare experience. Entering this field makes me feel like I'm dealing with car salesmen, except instead of potentially getting a bad deal on a car it's now my career and earnings that are on the line.

My only experience is with Onward Healthcare and I am very pleased with the company.

I am wondering if the difference in experiences within the same companies is due to the length of time the applicants have been nursing. I'm thinking that that might be because the more experienced nurses would be easier to "sell" to potential hospitals, thus making an easy transition into an assignment.

Now my friend and I work for the same company. She has only been a nurse for a few years. I have been a nurse for a long time, my resume just sells better, thus, it's less work trying to "sell" me. I have had a much smoother experience than her. Her experience has not been bad, mine has just been a little smoother.

I could be wrong, but just a thought.

I worked three contracts with American Mobile. I read all the bad things about them beforehand but I wanted to travel, and like Tango said, they were the ones who put a contract in front of me so I took it. The first two assignments were fine. I didn't have any problems. The last one was a nightmare. I finally experienced what other forum members had talked about. Ultimately, I think all companies have some downfalls. I have yet to find one that was perfect. Just try to get the location you want for a price you are comfortable with and go with whatever company can get it for you. If it goes as planned then great. If not, it's only 13 weeks.

That's just the thing. We read about bad things too often and it doesn't seem like it could happen to you, right? Well it does and will, especially if we all ignore the advice of others. One person not taking an assignment with American Mobile doesn't hurt them much, but if everyone who heard or read about something bad happening with them decided to not use them maybe it would cause a change. I don't want to make "Ton's of Money" but I would like to be paid well for what I do. I read today where a Senator wanted the Post Master General to take a pay cut of his $300 thousand a year because of the economy while in the next paragraph it noted that UPS and FedEx managers are in the millions and billions of dollars for the same type of job. How about they take a pay cut, share the wealth by cutting their prices and paying their workers a bit more? Fair and Equitable no price gouging and people who broker items make a profit only on sales not on purchases too.

Well now RNERHOUSESUPOR with the comment regarding the post master vs the ceo of fedex and ups that is like comparing apples to oranges. UPS and FedEx are private companies, the USPS is a government entity more or less. UPS and FedEx make money, USPS loses money every year and is propped up by taxes. UPS and FedEx pay their employees very well already. If the postmaster was given his pay based on profits such as UPS and FedEx... he wouldn't be paid. UPS and FedEx offer better service and garauntee your package will be there when promised... USPS offers no garauntees.... climbing off my soapbox.... I took an assignment with Aureus... it was a disaster... put me up at a rundown motel where they forgot to reserve me a room, and cops showed up on a daily rate to break up fights. They forgot to send me my name badge to my new address...6 times, every time I asked for it to be sent to where I was staying, they sent it to my home address.... they could figure out where to send my pay stubs but not my name badge. They decided that they would only pay for 1/2 my gas to get to my travel assignment(after stating that travel expenses were reinbursed). After multiple calls to get me to stay at a place I felt safe, they moved me into a half finished motel room currently being remodeled at the Best Western in town (maybe they got a better rate?). And when asked to give 10x the recommended versed to a child and refusing... they didn't back me.

I have worked 2 assignments for them (AM) in CA..end of last year and first of this year. I did not get out on the branch and have the limb sawed off as your friend. I did have a housing problem and was moved 2 times before it was OK.

That has to be a nightmare! So Sorry!
