Any info on RN position OH and background checks

Published

Any information I will greatly appreciate. I will graduate May 2007 as RN, I got offered a job in Ohio on Med Surg. I have a expunged Unauthorized use of property. I called BCI and they said that when they do a background check they have to send them this record wheather or not it was expunged. My whole problem is they offered me the job and I am getting the tuition reimbursement soon but I will not go to my orientation until after I receive this money. Don't you think they would have ran my SSN before they offered me the job and had me sign the contract for the tution reimbursement? I never disclosed this info because I thought once a offense was expunged then you can act like it never happened. Does anyone know if all hospitals in Ohio do background checks and will this expungement show up, will they most likely tell me I don't have the job? Any info or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Pigott, we can't give legal advice here, sorry. No one would know what each facility would do because every facility is different.

hello, pigott,

this is something about which allnurses.com cannot help.

also, you are going to need to contact your state bon regarding this issue and licensure.

questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a dui or other related charges?
  • what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
  • can i go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?

these are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.

good luck.
