I am a medical assistant, I graduated in May. I don't recommend working in a hospital unless you are planning to start nursing school soon. I did my externship at the duval county jail because I needed flexible hours. It was really great, I learned a lot! But, now I work for University of Florida Jacksonville Healthcare, on the Shands campus. I know Shands is a bit of a drive, but they have clinics in Orange Park so it isn't quite so far, and they do allow externships. If you are hired from your externship, UF is one of the highest paying employers of medical assistants in the area, and the benefits are good. I highly recommend it! Unfortunately, I will probably have to leave in the next 6-12 months when my nursing school work load gets to be too much!

I have started school to become a Clinical Medical Assistant and I need to find a place to do my externship. Does anyone know of a doctor's office or hospital near the Palatka/Jacksonville, Florida area that does externships? I really need help. I have to have a list of places by next week. Thank you so much.
