It's about that time for me to begin applying to nursing schools and i have no idea what to do! I'm currently finishing up my pre-req's at HCC and have Eng 101, Eng 102, Soc 101, Math 101, Math 137, and Public Speaking already under my belt. I'm currently taking Chemistry, Intro to Bio, Psychology, and Eng 101 again because i got a c- my first time taking it because i absolutely could not understand the professor (and i know im taking 2 sciences but i can handle it im cracking down this semester. I currently have a 2.8 GPA and hope to get it above a 3.0 after this fall semester. I am wondering what, if any, are some schools i should apply to and if I have a chance?, or if I should wait till after spring semester and try to build up my GPA. I was told it's easier for males but i doubt thats true haha. If anyone could help i would really appreciate it.

Hey Matt,
The response is slow because a lot of people have started school and really have not read the site lately...
anyway, do you have AP?? I didnt see it in the line up?

Hey, there. I would suggest getting all of your sciences done before applying and get that GPA up. I'm going to be done with nursing school in December and the hardest thing for most of my classmates was juggling the co/prerequisites while taking your nursing courses. I think it's great you are redoing your English. Focus and do well, it will pay off!
Just as an FYI, I had a 3.9 and got into Gateway, Norwalk and BHSON. The more classes you have completed the more attractive you are to the admission committee. Hope this helps.
Good luck.
I havent taken AP yet because intro to bio is the pre-req, so im taking it this spring semester. I know i definitely need a higher gpa..does anyone know the average gpa of an accepted student at NCC or BHSON?

hi matt, im currently at bridgeport hospital and the program there is GREAT! unfortunately..its extrememly competitive to get into. if i were you, i would apply in january AFTER this semester...really try to get ur gpa up, u still have until the end of january to apply for 2009 i believe...also, take the TEAS test and score well! i purchased the study guide and studied from it and scored very very high, which i think aided in my acceptance. i have a previous bachelors degree but i graduated with a 2.8--not too good..but i , like u, did my pre reqs at HCC and had a cumulative gpa of a 3.9 there-i worked my BUTT off, and i know you can do. my advice, try really hard this semester, score well on the teas and apply to schools in the beginning of january after this semester is over. GOOD LUCK
