  1. i wish they were as nice about it. i've already talked to them and we have all the makeup days set it's just the attitude i get back that upsets me and is what i'm going to have to deal with until i graduate
  2. I checked the handook, thanks, I can miss 2 or more clinicals in a 6 weeks course or up to 4 in a course longer than that, ( my course is going to be 10 weeks) of course all missed clinical requires a makeup date and fee but according to the handbook I am not at jeopardy of failing up until that point. I have also been in contact with the school about making up the missed lab and I can. I know I CAN do it, I am just not looking forward to the backlash.
  3. its a student nurse internship. you are with a nurse doing everything, your job title is actually STUDENT NURSE ASSISTANT. they hire you as a GN/RN over outsiders because its an easier transition becuase you've already been doing it .
  4. Hi all. I graduate this May, 2010 and am torn by a recent event. I currently am a student nurse at a hospital near-by, however I recently got another student nurse job on a pediatrics floor taht will most likely (90%) lead to a graduate nurse job in May. I am very very excited because I really think I am giong to LOVE pediatrics but here is the problem > I have to miss two days of school, one class and one clinical. Long story short..my school is NOT HAPPY. I have gotten 3-4 emails talking about how i need to make school a priority and how i should worry about getting through the program 1st before anything else in my life, and now I look like a really bad student because I really want to go forward with this job opportunity. Now I can make up the clinical and the class, but now my school looks down on me and I'm worried they will find a way to fail me. i dont know what to do? I really want this job and I can make up the missed time but i also dont want to spend the last 4 months of school being looked-down upon as a bad student. HELP
  5. ..we are not callin her a snob bc of law degree, i think a lot of us are seeing an attitude being protrayed even through text, she seems quick to call her classmates boring and NOT SMART in posts, i know it turned me off and many others. we are all working really hard in school, no doubt, and it hurts to see someone coming in and saying that just because she is not in a masters program she can't find anyone on 'her level'.
  6. no offense but it sounds like you are being the snobbish one,.... saying that maybe you'd find better friends in a masters program. get to know people, you may be pleasantly surprised. i'm in a nursing program and i'm one of the youngest ones, my best friends in the program have atleast 20 years on me and i'm sure they judged me at first. how long have you been in the program? dn't write everyone off immediately, i'm positive you're not the only one with a degree, there are people in my school with previous masters, a physical therapist, people from all walks of life, nursing is such a unique field..its the career many people are turning to later in life, good luck!!!
  7. hi matt, im currently at bridgeport hospital and the program there is GREAT! unfortunately..its extrememly competitive to get into. if i were you, i would apply in january AFTER this semester...really try to get ur gpa up, u still have until the end of january to apply for 2009 i believe...also, take the TEAS test and score well! i purchased the study guide and studied from it and scored very very high, which i think aided in my acceptance. i have a previous bachelors degree but i graduated with a 2.8--not too good..but i , like u, did my pre reqs at HCC and had a cumulative gpa of a 3.9 there-i worked my BUTT off, and i know you can do. my advice, try really hard this semester, score well on the teas and apply to schools in the beginning of january after this semester is over. GOOD LUCK
  8. I just had my first test and scored a 74. im very very very upset. now im starting to question if nursing is even for me bc i know it is only going to get harder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. ours are nice, maroon scrub top with our school embroided on it and white pants
  10. this is my first semester but i'm on a med-surg floor till christmas!!!
  11. So i have my first nursing test tuesday..and i'm kinda nervous! First of all, everyone..includng the instructors has warned us about nursing exams..saying they will be different than any other type of testing most of us have probably endured. I consider myself a good test-taker and studier, i'm an A student and already have a bachelors in another discipline but i'm thinking none of that will have prepared me for tuesday. i can think critically..i went to a test taking strategy lecture kinda thing they offered at our school and they had example questions and i got most of them right i'm just still..idk..just wanted to get this out i guess. any advice? i've been studying as much as can but i dont feel like you can really study the material they gave us..its nursing 101 stuff..
  12. i've heard great things about ncc, i've heard a lot of mixed reviews about bhsn. if i were in your position i'd go to ncc, they do have an associates degree and i'm sure you'll get just as good clinical experience as at bhsn. let us know what you decide!
