Any Home Health LPN's here?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Specializes in general practice clinic.

I have worked in the clinic setting for 5 years, 4 as a Patient Care Assistant, and 1 as an LPN. I am about done with the politics of the company and the constant short-staff situation. We have a 2 doc clinic and they fired the other nurse last week without having a back-up plan in place. The parent company has no floats available at this time, so I'm taking care of 50 patients a day, plus phone calls, med refills and referrals. I have been told if I can't handle the pace on my own, I should consider a different job. Okay.

So, since I have never had any hospital experience, will it be difficult to interview for Home Health? We have a company here that does home IV infusion and I'm very interested in that, but wondering if they will want RN's only. If any of you have Home Health experience, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks!!

Rhonda

Since there are some hh companies that will hire people right out of school, the fact that you have experience at all will most likely be enough to get your hired by one of them. You just have to make very sure that you are given sufficient orientation to everything you will be doing. Ask to shadow a nurse and do not let them throw you out there unless you feel that you know what is going on.

Alternatively, you could try to get hired at an acute care hospital and get that year's experience on med surg first or work in LTC for some more experence. Good luck.
