hi there. im a foreign graduate nurse who is licensed RN here in CA. I just got here in in LA and im wondering what other certifications will I need to apply for a job? Like ABLS etc... I dont have any US hospital experience yet so I know it'll be hard for me to find a job. Is there any one out there in the same situation as mine? Its hard to adjust being a newcomer in this country and so with finding a job. I really dont know where to start. Any advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks

In my opinion, with any job you apply for (even for a nursing job), it's not about where you graduate, you need a "backer" or somebody you know who has a position in the hospital or institution you are applying for so you will have a good opportunity for you to get hired. some of my RN friends have started from facilities or home care first. you have to work your way up to the top. :-) Just saying

hi everyone!

I'm a foreign nurse also. I came here last year as an immigrant. I graduated many years ago and don't have an experience back home. I recently passed my NCLEX-RN(New York)..I'm struggling also to get a job here as a RN because of the gap years and don't have an experience in the hospital..Guys, Is it possible to apply as a Nursing assistant in the hospital just to get my foot in the door??? Is it a good idea? any advice...Thanks!
