Any Facilities Accepting Text Messages As A New Way Of Receiving Orders?!

Published

So we have faxes, electronic charting and physicians' orders are obviously being done remotely.

I wonder, if someday, these orders can be transmitted via "text messaging or voice mail." Thus, preventing words getting lost in translation.

Any facilities taking MD orders via text now-a-days?!?!.... I wonder! :sarcastic:

I think this is safe unless a loony teen grabs a hold of the doctor's phone and started ordering pot brownies to be added on a patient's diet. :woot:

I suppose it would eliminate the chance of a provider claiming to have not written the order. On the other hand, if the provider has the HIPAA-compliant ability to text an order, I would think they should be able to enter the order him/herself. (unless still using a paper system, of course)

Secured medical messaging has been around for a while from a number of companies such as Amion, Halo, Vocera, etc. I generally prefer texts for simple things, usually I just send text and the order appears in the EMR. There is always the chance that somebody else has gotten ahold of their phone and figured out their password, but the same is true for the EMR, and really I don't really care as long as I'm getting the orders I'm looking for.

The facility I work at uses E-medical. You dont need to call, if not an emergency. I tell, you it takes the hassle out too.
