Any DATC Nursing Applicants?

U.S.A. Utah

Published

I just submitted my application to DATC for the first time! Just wondering if any of you are also applying or have applied before. I know they are competitive but I'm just curious if any one has an idea what it takes to get in. Any experiences?

The book I ordered from Amazon for the PAX test was called, "Review Guide For RN Pre-Entrance Exam 3rd Edition." I also watched some videos on YouTube about the PAX test.

Review Guide For RN Pre-Entrance Exam: 978

Hello!

I haven’t seen anything on here since 2018, so I thought I would throw something on here. I am applying to DATC’s program for their October cohort with the following credentials:

-Overall GPA: 3.85

-Science GPA: 3.9

- 3 years medial experience as a medial assistant

- 3 reference letters one from a MD (surgeon), NP, and PA

- 130 PAX score

-Personal letter completed

The only things I will not have is, a current CNA license and my Math completed. I have completed Pathophysiology and all the science requirements. The admission advisor said that was a big thing to have Patho and a good science GPA to get accepted. I am hoping by not having my CNA and Math, I will still be able to get accepted!

Thanks for all the info that everyone is putting on here!

Hey there,

Everything you have looks good. Volunteer experience helps. I volunteered at Primary Children's in the emergency department. They always have a lot of volunteer positions at Primary Children's.

I'm not sure about the CNA license... but MAKE SURE YOU FINISH YOUR MATH. I was unable to continue with the RN program, because I didn't have Weber's math requirement done. I graduated from the DATC and passed the LPN-NCLEX, but you're very limited with work as an LPN in Utah.

Get math over with, specifically math 1040, because almost all nursing programs require math 1040.

Also, I'd apply to SLCC's nursing program as well. If you plan to work full time, or even part time while you're in the DATC's nursing program, expect to be extremely busy. I worked one 12 hour shift a week during the first semester, and that was challenging. I worked two 12 hour shifts the second semester, and that was worse. The DATC is good for someone who has zero hospital experience, and for someone who has a sugar daddy or a sugar momma so they don't have to work.

The main thing is to get accepted ANYWHERE, and get going with school!

GOOD LUCK!

At the DATC you can expect to be in class three days a week, and lab/skills pass off on one of those days, followed with a 12 hour clinical (7-8 clinicals your first semester). Stay away from Davis Hospital if you can... not a good place to learn. At SLCC, you have class once a week, Thursday or Friday, lab here and there, and clinical 3-4 times your first semester.

The main thing is to get accepted ANYWHERE, and get going with school!

Also, don't be surprised if you don't get in the first time... I went from not getting accepted the first time, to being the #2 applicant the second time I applied. They have three cycles which is nice.

GOOD LUCK!

Seanjohn35,

Thank you for your advice. I have over 500 volunteer hours from a medical mission to Africa. When I asked DATC they said they didn’t really take volunteer hours into account, so I didn’t list them. I will look into SLCC too. I am taking math 1040 this fall at Weber. Thanks again!
