I recently got accepted into the RN program at Medical Careers Institute. I was wondering if anyone that is in the program now or a grad had any advice or info on the program.
Thanks and please help!

Not to be the bearer of bad news but my boyfriend's sister recently graduated from MCI (Medical Assistant program) and she indicated the trouble that the school is having with accreditation. According to her, the professors at MCI do not recommend the program. She plans to pursue RN at Riverside.
However, those are her thoughts...I'm sure you'll be successful in the program!
Good luck to you
Thank you so much for sharing what you know. I will keep that in mind.
Thanks

I am a current student at MCI in the LPN program and I have 3 months left until graduation. I cant speak for the Medical Assisting program but the nursing programs are fully accredited. I have already been offered a few jobs upon my graduation. My professors have never said they dont recommend the program, the only thing EVERYONE gets a little ticked at is the pricetag to attend the school (everyone accept the owners of MCI that is). I know a lot of the RN students at my campus and they are all pleased with the education thus far. In fact our first RN graduating class all passed their boards back in June, which allowed for the RN program to then become accredited (it is a new program at the Va Beach campus). Whatever you choose, good luck! I myself am enjoying my education for the most part. Im just not looking forward to paying back on my student loans lol.
Thank you so much dara757! That is so encouraging to hear. That is why I wanted to hear directly from a MCI student. I am pretty new to the area, so I don't know much about the school and it's reputation. As I am sure you know, the school doesn't give you an abundance of information until your program starts. I am getting really excited now!
Thanks again,
Crystal
Oh, I forgot to say congrats on being so close to finishing!
Thanks and youre welcome! I have lived in VA for about 6 years and I have heard both good and bad things about ALL the schools in the area, including MCI. So I would take peoples (negative) opinions very lightly. The only way you can truly know about the school is to do your own research. The worst complaint I can make about the LPN program is that at times it seems a bit disorganized. I cant speak for the RN program. I was actually originally in the RN program but decided to go the LPN route because you do have to take Pre Reqs and you are not gauranteed a spot right away, its a matter of how many students apply and GPA and stuff like that. Unlike other schools though, it is unlikely that you will be waiting very long to get in because they dont have an actual "waiting list". If I had to choose over again I would have just went ahead with the RN program and do the pre reqs and everything and I would actually be starting the nursing classes around this time. But im still young and plan to go back next year for my RN. Good luck in whatever you choose!
I finish my pre-reqs next week; computers and math. They told me I was accepted into the program a week and a half ago. I haven't talked to many people there yet and the staff only releases as much info as absolutely necessary, so I am in the dark on student opinions. Thanks for your info. My advisor encouraged me to sign up for the LPN program too, because it was a sure thing and with the RN program I would have to take a gamble. I am glad that I took my chances. My class starts on the 5th of Sept. I am really excited and appreciate all that you have told me. I hope that you go somewhere cheaper for your RN! I will not pay MCI twice, once is definately enough.

I just found out my new schedule! I have Nikolova, for A&P 1; and Dowling, for freshman orientation. Do you know them or are you at a different campus?

While this is a public informative forum, I only wanted to share what I've heard about the RN program at MCI in Newport News, VA (which is subjective) being that I previously served as an Adjunct English Professor at the Institute. As I indicated, those were only the comments of someone I know who attended MCI as well as professional experience. I apologize if my post was unappreciated
Good luck to you and Be Blessed

I appreciate all the information that is offered to me. I need to be aware of all that I can about the school before I give them my money. I am not ungrateful. I also appreciate you taking time out of your life to inform me of what you know. I was just very relieved and excited to hear positive feedback from a student's perspective. I keep all of the personal and professional opinions that I have received in mind, as well as any information that I have researched for myself.
Thank you again

Hi, I'm new to the site and I was so happy to hear that you got into the RN program at MCI. We are military and will be moving in that area soon. I wanted to do research on the school other than what I was told by the school and your info was so helpful...thanks!!! What are the other pre-req other than math and computer ? How much is the RN program, when I called and asked they really didn't want to tell me over the phone so I was like ooookkay that's not good... again thank you and hope to hear from you soon...
